There have been a lot of talk about whether Will Middlebrooks is our #1 prospect or because of his plate discipline someone else should be. I know almost all the regular posters have already made their points but the Mods don't like the topic of the Site's rankings in the main board so lets move it here.
I'm not involved in the site's rankings, obviously, but I think there are good reasons for WMB to be our # prospect. He has shown steady improvements over his minor league career as far as making contact goes. Something that has been seen by Chris(Cem21) who has been watching WMB since his debut at Lowell, he's in charge of the rankings(I think) so he has seen him with his own eyes how he has improved through his MiLB career, you can't question that. He's close to the Majors already reaching AAA and has already started to show the power that once was potential.
Scouting sources outside of SP(again I'm not an insider here. I know that the guys talk to scouts within or outside the organization) have said positives things about WMB. He was voted as the best hitting prospect by managers in the EL, according to BA. So there is a strong argument for Will Middlebrooks to be our #1 prospect.
I for one think Xander Bogaerts is our #1 prospect. I know people are gonna come with the "he could be Michael Almazar" thing but really thats a poor comparison. If Almanzar ever did what Bogaerts has already done he probably would have been an undoubted #1 prospect in the system and probably peak in the high 30s among national top 100(I mean if an 18 y/o Almanzar did what Bogaerts has done). Does Xander have things to work on at the plate? Definitely but a 24%k rate, 8% BB rate for a player fresh off the DSL and with his kind of power is not as big of a concern to hold him off the top spot. I know people want to hold back because of past failures but I suggest people look at each player for what they are not because others have "flame out"
knock them down.
Discuss who you think should be our #1 or maybe Chris gives us some of the reasoning behind the ranking, although I think he already did.
