Now that the Francona Era appears to be officially over, who do we think/who would we like to see considered for the job?
I'm going to repost this quote from Yirmiyahu because I think it sums things up well, or at least is a good start:
One question I have for people, what are your memories/impressions of Bobby Valentine as a manager? He's interesting to me because he seems open to advanced statistics and he has enough of a name/reputation that he can walk in on day one and "take charge" so to speak without being laughed at. Is that way off?

Let's think about what the team would be looking for in a new manager.Anything else?
- Someone who is familiar with advanced stats, intelligent lineup construction, exploiting platoons, the stupidity of bunting, etc.
- Someone who isn't going to abuse pitchers' arms
- Someone who can handle the press. This can't be stressed enough. Francona was absolutely brilliant at deflecting controversy and criticism.
- Related to the above, someone who will won't leak to the media, won't air out dirty laundry, won't publicly call out his players, etc.
- Someone who will defer to the GM in terms of roster construction and player roles, but is intelligent enough on those subjects to offer some input
- Someone with enough experience and authority that he will be respected and not subject to public criticism by the players.
- Obviously, someone who will concentrate more on winning individual games, won't play 'B' lineups for key games just because its a travel day, with a proper sense of urgency, etc.
