Please do not vote based on who you think is the best prospect or who you think may perform better in the future. This poll will close on Friday, September 16. All stats are cumulative for all Red Sox minor league affiliates. Full stats are available here. Offensive Player of the Year (Total Votes: 134) - Closed Bryce Brentz (Sal/Gre) .306/.365/.574/.939 with 30 HRs (22 / 16.4%) Chih-Hsien Chiang (Por) .340/.402/.648/1.050 with 18 HRs (11 / 8.2%) Miles Head (Sal/Gre) .299/.372/.515/.887 with 22 HRs (3 / 2.2%) Brandon Jacobs (Gre) .303/.376/.505/.881 with 17 HRs, 31 SBs (8 / 6%) Ryan Lavarnway (Paw/Por) .290/.376/.563/.939 with 32 HRs (90 / 67.2%)

Guess I meant if he stayed AND continued the same pace. Four scenarios if not traded: 1. He tails off similar to how he did in Jackson, ends with the numbers Ji Oh posts. 2. He doesn't play the final 141 PAs, and has about 30% fewer PAs than Brentz or Lavarnway. 3. He plays the final 141 PAs, and has basically his career line prior to this season (about a 750 OPS), finishing with a .960 OPS and about 22/23 HRs. 4. He does close to the same pace and ends up with 25 HRs total, and a 1000 OPS. If 1 or 2 take place, I'd not vote for him. If 3 takes place, I probably don't vote for him (positional adjustment and OBP push me towards Lavarnway), but its very close. The only scenario where I vote for him is if 4 takes place. I treated it like scenario 2. Missing 30% of the year is just too much of a chunk.

Btw, is "offensive player of the year" supposed to be solely limited to hitting and baserunning? Or can we account for position?

Veteran Member Posts: 184 09/15/11 12:26 AM Veteran Member	Lavarnway: all the other guys are worthy, but Lavarnway just mashed the hell out of the ball. In truth, if we hadn't traded Chiang, and he had had an even remotely decent rest of the year, I would have voted for him. But we traded him, and then he turned into a pumpkin, so he is out. I wonder what the hell happened to him. His OPS for his new team over the last quarter of the season was .517. .517!!! I like the guy and hope he turns this around, but it kinda looks like the Sox made the most of a sell high situation.
