The first sign of struggle for Lackey probably be during his warmups. He very well may struggle bending over to ties his cleats. You're basically just saying don't start the guy. Veteran Member Posts: 2491 08/29/11 10:58 AM	You know, for all the "Fenway's going to make AGon a MONSTER" talk from the off-season, so far his stats line is remarkably similar to his last healthy season on San Diego (2009) with the exception that a bunch of walks became singles and some home runs became doubles. The main point though is that some of us are fans. We want to win every damned game, and we want to win them by 10 runs each when it's the Yankees. The standings don't matter. It's hard to argue though with what you said about Lackey. I'd like too, but can't. :-)

Veteran Member Posts: 1037 08/29/11 3:27 PM	If Granderson was a league average defender, he'd be the clear front runner for MVP right now (if he isn't anyway with the media). He seems like a great human being, so I wish he was doing it for another team. But you can't deny the awesome season the guy is having. I know he plays in Yankee stadium, but the guy also has great road splits (if not better, .408 wOBA at home and .420 wOBA away). With that being said... I hope he strikes out in every AB this series and for the remainder of his career.

And I also wish them to flail and fail miserably, either getting swept by the Sox in the ALCS or, rather than having them lose in the first round, just missing the playoffs in an epic collapse.

I still care deeply about every game the Sox play and, as Guidas implied, I care deeply about every game the MFYs play. What makes my blood boil is poor managerial decisions regarding who is on the mound. Honestly, Lackey to me seems like a middle reliever, not a starter and he seems to deliver a flat fast ball and does not have a decent enough repertoire of breaking balls to be a starter in the AL. I keep talking about Aceves moving to the starting rotation and Iknow it would never fly but think about what would happen if Tito flopped AA and Lackey?

A few days ago I read an article about Verlander speculating that he could get to 300 victories. The article was in sort of a pessimistic tone, as if the 300-win pitcher was a dying breed because of the realities of the modern game (5-man rotation, pitch counts, more strategic use of relievers). Which got me to thinking about Sabathia. Here is the epitome of the consistent workhorse. He figures to be closing in on 180 victories at the end of this season, and he is showing absolutely no sign of slowing down. Seven years at a bit less than his current win rate gets him there, at which point he would be 38 years old. That is, he could have a bit of leeway. I know, with his body, how can he possibly get there? He has to break down before that point! But does he? Is he the anomaly that will simply bulldoze his way to the finish line?

Everything seems lined up for the Sox to take at least 2 of 3 (Yankees tired, Sox refreshed, the second two pitching matchups clearly favor the Red Sox and the first might if the Sox really have figured something out about Sabathia), but ... I expect Sabathia to bounce back and shut down the Sox over 7-8 innings tonight. Then, who knows? Maybe Hughes has a great game and Beckett's a little off. And then AJ Burnett ... ok, that last one's a clear mismatch. AJ Burnett's terrible. Even when pessimistic I can't see anything but the Sox as an overwhelming favorite in that one.

CC hasn't quite been the same since his 1-hitter against Seattle. He had a no-no going and there was a rain delay and they brought him back out to go for it. Since then in 5 starts his line is 2-3 4.95ERA 36 1/3 ip 46 h 21r 20er 3 bb 35k. His K//BB is still great. But, he gave up 10 hits 3 times and 9 once. Maybe a little bit of a tired arm. They really ride him. Much like the Sox used to do with Clemens. Might be the reason for his pedestrian post-season numbers. 7-4 w/l 4.66 era whip 1.58 11hr in 77 1/3 innings. 38 bb's is very high for him. K's are 71. Good. Not great.
