It is that time of the year where the Sox start to plug in holes for the playoff push. I think the Sox are going to look to add a catcher, not starter material but someone who can take innings as the season winds down. A right handed bat, preferably a right fielder has to be on the list. A starter who can take up some innings late in the season, Not a playoff starter but maybe a contributor out of the pen. A veteran, Paul Byrd type transaction. And of course, relievers. So who is it going to be? Here are the ones whom I think are candidates.
C Ryan Doumit, R/R, Pittsburgh (most likely candidate IMO)
C Dioner Navarro, S/R, Los Angeles (I could see the Rays re-acquiring Navarro and subsequenly dumping Shoppach)
C Kelly Shoppach, R/R, Tampa Bay (only way acquired is through waivers)
C Miguel Olivo, R/R, Seattle
C John Buck, R/R, Florida
C Ivan Rodriguez, R/R, Washington
1B/3B/OF Casey Blake, R/R, Los Angeles
1B/OF Xavier Nady, R/R, Arizona
OF Josh Willingham, R/R, Oakland
OF Michael Cuddyer, R/R, Minnesota
OF Carlos Beltran, S/R, NY Mets
OF Ryan Ludwing, R/L, San Diego
OF David DeJesus, L/L, Oakland (unlikely because he is a left handed hitter but he has always been a Theo favorite)
RHSP Derek Lowe, R/R, Atlanta
RHSP Carl Pavano, R/R, Minnesota
LHSP Ted Lilly, L/L, Los Angeles
RHSP Jon Garland, R/R, Los Angeles
RHSP Brett Myers, R/R, Houston
RHSP Kiroki Kuroda, R/R, Los Angeles ( will cost too many prospects)
RHSP Mike Pelfrey, R/R, NY Mets
RHSP, Chris Capuano, L/L, NY Mets (local kid)
RHSP Jason Marquis, L/R, Washington
RHSP Livan Hernandez, R/R, Washington
RHRP Kerry Wood, R/R, Chicago Cubs
