I hadn't noticed. Last year we had a list from I think of players expected to sign for slot, expected to sign for over slot, not expected to sign etc etc. Can we expect that again this year? He actually did a great job only missing one unexpected sign (leblanc) I believe.

The Red Sox called when Holder was drafted and offered their congratulations.

Rookie Posts: 25 06/11/11 2:56 AM	That seems like the work of a smart area scout and it is probably not unusual. A 50th rounder is almost invariably going to college (in this case at a nearby major college program) so he gets to keep up his relationship with the player for future drafts as well as building a solid relationship as a good guy with the local high school and college programs.

Any combo of two of the top 7 drafted players would have been great. As it was, they got arguably the top college and top high school pitchers in the country. Rookie Posts: 2 06/11/11 8:40 AM	Just read a post draft chat that Jim Callis did so not sure if this was already posted in the old link: Jim Callis: The Red Sox were their usual aggressive selves. I agree, they wanted a college pitcher to fall to them and got Barnes. I thought they drafted as many quality players as any club, which his nothing new. Now they have to sign a few of Swihart, Kukuk, Golson, Gossett, Spalding, Gaines—those are their toughest signs. Also a link to BA signing list for the whole draft LINK

Ben Dartnell will actually realize that dream later this month. The Red Sox have invited all the draftees to Boston on June 22nd. They will take them all out to dinner and a Red Sox game that night. The next day, the draftees will play a game against each other at the home of the Green Monster.

Here's his reply: "I think I'm just going to go to school and play there. I plan to be there in July." He said he wasn't going to Boston for the Fenway Classic on June 22, but he hasn't told the Red Sox that yet. They haven't called him back since negotiations on Thursday. He said the whole thing has been "a whole bunch of nonsense." "I think I'm gonna go to Ole Miss. That's just what I want to do." I guess Boston could throw some crazy hail mary, but this thing looks as close to done as possible. He's not going to wait on Boston and seems very determined to attend college. I heard from a very good source earlier today that talks were futile at this point, and Golson would be in Oxford. Golson's comments seem to verify that.

Sox will make every effort to sign their picks in the top 10 rounds and once his initial disappointment period is over, he will wise up and think it over with a cooler head. There was an article done by either Mike or Chris talking about Ranaudo and he gave the Sox his number when he was drafted and they didn't talk until the signing deadline. That is when Theo sent over the offer with his number and he signed. That is why many criticize the current system because it takes away the ability to get guys who are definitely signing more of a taste of the minors. However for guys who are signed up to play both football and baseball, I believe Selig has always allowed those to be announced earlier. Which in the case of Golson is obvious as he is set to arrive at school in a little over two weeks time.

Also: I remember last year that Mike kept a regularly-updated list of the major draftees' signing situations, including their likelihood of signing, their college commitments, and an estimated signing price. Can we expect a similar thing this year?
