Draft Day is always a big day around here, and we anticipate having a record number of visitors. Draftee info will be continuously updated on SoxProspects News, the SoxProspects Twitter page, and on the Draft History Page as the day goes along. A *Draft Signings Thread* will be opened later in the week, following Day Three.

Posts: 377 06/06/11 7:03 AM Jim Crowell Staff Writer SoxProspects.com	Won't be around today until about draft time but 2 names that haven't really been talked about that I would love with our 2nd round pick is Jace Peterson and Charlie Lowell. Peterson is a good defensive shortstop who also has a good approach at the plate and plus speed. He also plays cornerback for the McNeese State football team, so when he can focus just on baseball he should get even better. Charlie Lowell is a LHP out of Wichita State who gets a lot of swing and misses with his FB/SL combo. Command has been a bit of an issue with him but he cut down the walks a bit this year to post a 3.48 BB/9 in addition to his 10.8 K/9. He may be a releiver down the road, but he would be a very good one.

Posts: 8060 06/06/11 7:10 AM Senior Forum Moderator	Some late rumors from the overnight: SEA takes Lindor #2, even if Rendon is available ARI takes Bauer #3, even if Hultzen is still on the board Several teams have spoken to Bell about paying his price (reportedly $6mm) and he says he's going to college (Texas) and not to draft him. Mocks will start pouring out this morning with late speculation, but these are some of the things to look for.

This year was harder than ever considering the crazyness of the talent available and I actually have the list on another platform but anyway my Day 1 dream come true: 19. Sonny Gray (don't ask me why but I have a gut feeling about this, very unlikely I know, most probably won't be around and I expect the Sox to then take Jed Bradley or move my next picks all up slot) 26. Josh Bell 36. Jackie Bradley Jr. 40. Blake Swihart Other possibilites: Tyler Beede Brandon Nimmo Nothing out of the ordinary (aside Gray of course) but I'd be very happy with a draft like this. I once lost a bet on who would have the highest season SLG% because of a scorer. The guy I had a bet with had a clear error ruled a double in the last game of the season and it was the margin of victory. It was amateur baseball and normally not something you would remember but in this case, the bet was who was going to ask a hot chick named Brin out after she lost her loser boyfriend. The other guy won, she broke up with her bf and he took her out. A year later they got married. Did I mention that she was hot, very hot ? Oh yeah, the official scorer was the other guys mother. Veteran Member Posts: 3687 06/06/11 9:48 AM Veteran Member	I'm not gonna do a projecting to what I think the Sox may do, I've flunked pretty bad, but the team is in a great position and I trust them to pounce on this situation. I liked how Theo emphasize the fact that this may be the last compensation system and the last time you could pay all this high bonuses. I really think we gonna see an aggressive Red Sox, not that they haven't in the past but this they'll be even more aggressive. As for the 19th pick in an ideal situation one of the college arms would drop but in the draft there are always runs and this year it will be college pitchers so probably thats not a possibility any more. Quality HS arms will be available but it seems the team is not considering them for that spot but really, if thats whats high on your board thats what you gotta do. We'll see, the draft is finally here, and for the first time the guy that I liked from the first day seems to be in the mixed or at least the team has scouted him thoroughly. Am Dominican and you??

Veteran Member Posts: 749 06/06/11 9:53 AM	I predict that apx 1/4 of the board will miss the forest for the trees and expect that for each pick the Red Sox should select the higher BA ranked player (and OMG!!!!z1 at the the difference b/w #19 and 30, or 92 and 114, or whatever). I also predict that when all is said and done, the Red Sox will pay the 3rd or so most money and select the second or third most people in BA's top 200 list, as they do each year.

That could be Gray, Jed Bradley, or Mahtook if any should get here. 26. Chris Reed, LHP, Stanford Again they're open to any quality player who falls, mostly college, but won't go way above MLB's recommended bonus this early. Have heard the Josh Bell rumors are overheated. I think they look at Blake Swihart, Nimmo, or Hedges (if available) in the sandwich round or later, but most likely take some slightly lower-profile high school players and pay them over slot.
