Or, maybe something like: Red Sox Trade: [Tons o' shit] Royals Trade: Zacky G. D-backs Trade: Upton. The D-Backs get Zack and a prospect. The Royals get a glut of prospects. Sox get Upton.

My deal would be Sox get Reynolds(Salary relief for the DBacks) and Upton(Lord knows why they would trade him) DBacks get: Doubront(ready cheap pitching help), Casey Kelly(long-term pitching with frontline potential Kally and Jarrod Parker under control for years to come is enticing), Anthony Rizzo/Lars Anderson(Their preference,they just release LaRoche), Reymond Fuentes(High celing OF) and Stolmy Pimentel/Britton(their preference). I know some people don't would question getting Reynolds but since we are trading so many ships then we should get as many picks as possible. The 2011 draft is loaded with premium talent as well as many premium Latin talent so re-stocking won't be as hard, it'll be hard for the scouts to get the right talent but we could possibly have 3 1st(ours and 1 for each of Martinez and Beltre) and some supp-round so I think we could do it. Its only a matter of if Theo reads this and Kevin Towers doesn't. ha Am Dominican and you??

Rookie Posts: 4 11/18/10 6:15 PM	I heard that the Diamondbacks requested three players from the MLB roster and that two of the names they will not budge on are Ellsbury and Bard (I suspect the 3rd is Doubront) and odds are they will want either Anderson or Rizzo and then one more low-end prospect.

And I would think Upton's speed would be a better fit for CF than LF. Note: I don't think it'll happen. Just hypothesizing.

As for the speculated demand (piecing together rumors), Ellsbury/Bard/Felix + 2 others sounds like the request (or something very close). That's a pretty good deal unless Toronto offers something like Snider/Romero(or Cecil?)/Webb/d'Arnaud/etc. EDIT: I can't see what the other 2 main rumored teams (Florida and Seattle) could offer that would match those. If you believe the report today that Towers is more inclined to move him than before they arrived ath the GM Meetings than obviously the demand is there. Although speculation has been on the Marlins, Blue Jays and Mariners in addition to the Sox, think we would be the front runner. I think we offer the most available talent in terms of being ready next year (Bard/Ellsbury) and a few very good long term prospects. I think the other three teams would be just offering long term solutions that Towers doesn't seem to be interested in.

The deals would be very different, as I believe Hoyer would want the prospects where Towers seems to want current MLB talent.

Like has been said on the main thread, Epstein believes trading for a superstar is a better alternative than signing a massive free agent. We are to far away still in trade rumors to accurately figure out what Towers really wants for Upton to make a deal. We will see how real these talks are in the next few weeks leading up to the Winter Meetings. But at the same time you would be replacing Ellsbury with Upton so a deal involving Ellsbury wouldn't as damaging. Bard would sting but at the same point he is still a reliever, although a very good one at that. But you don't allow a potential closer derail a thread for a Justin Upton like talent. You include those two and you should be able to keep 2 of Kalish/Kelly/Rizzo. However I highly doubt that we are going to unload a lot of talent for Upton and then go on and make another star studded deal. Just isn't feasible in my estimation. Although you are creating a big hole in your bullpen by removing Bard, the savings compared to signing Werth/Crawford can be designated to a Soriano type guy. Also you can maybe extend a little more on Beltre to keep him. You are looking at: C - Salty/? 1B - Youk DH - Ortiz 2B - Pedroia SS - Scutaro 3B - Beltre LF - Upton CF - Kalish/Cameron RF - Drew Utility - Lowrie Not to shabby overall.

I think that both would create a problem so hopefully we can keep Kalish, they seem to want ML ready pieces so we might be able to get lucky and keep Kalish. As for this being a ploy to get AG I don't see it. AG had surgery recently and is going to test free-agency and as other have said the Red Sox will be in a position to spend some money that off season so why "waste" prospects on a trade for AG instead of getting Upton now and the signing AG as a free-agent. Note: I know, its fun being an imaginary GM. Am Dominican and you??

I also agree that a trade for Adrian Gonzalez would require less in the way of prospects and yes would be a considerably different trade. Therefore I think this supports my suggestion that an Upton play is being developed to establish a value for a trade between the Red Sox and Padres. My opinion is Theo will want to hold as many prospects as possible for future value in trades and on the field in Fenway. Two other elements seem to support the Red Sox the interest in pursuing a trade for Gonzalez now. The early references to moving Youk to third and the recent talking up of Jed Lowerie as a quality baseball player. My guess is Lowerie would be traded in any deal to the Padres. Also if AG becomes a member of the RS it seems more likely a Teixeira like deal would be accepted before free agency.

For one thing, I highly doubt Gonzalez would sign a long term deal with the Sox mid-season. The Sox front office rarely talks extensions during the season, and Gonzalez will likely want to test his market value. At this point, the Sox are probably the favorites to sign him, but whether they trade for him or not has no bearing on how likely they are to sign him next offseason. And the trade value for Upton vs. Gonzalez is astronomically different. The packages required would have nothing in common, so it's not like you're creating a baseline for the Gonzalez negotiations. Upton: 23 years old - 5 years of control - has the potential to become the best player in baseball Gonzalez: 29 years old - 1 year of control - arguably at his peak

Rookie Posts: 60 11/19/10 1:41 PM	The cost of Upton seems to high in my opinion. It only works if Upton reaches his potential and from looking at his family tree it says he will not. Bad shoulder does not run out grounders and strikes out a ton sounds quite a bit like his brother. If you wanted to trade Jacoby and some prospects OK but including Bard and Jacoby in the same package looks like over paying in a huge way. Unless everyone thinks Jacoby is so on the outs that we need him gone.
