I'm not usually one to praise female "beasts" but that's exactly what Lindsey Vonn was yesterday in her downhill run. While everyone else was wiping out on an extremely tough course that was completely different from what they'd trained on, Vonn skiied hard and landed the scariest jump practically on one leg at 80(?) miles an hour. She had more than 6 tenths on the next girl (underdog Mancuso) in a sport where the men's side was decided by 9 hundredths of a second. She is so far ahead of the others, she's Bond's-on-steroids good. Sorry, just amped about the US results yesterday; setting a record for most medals won in a 24-hour period.

She fell today which cost her the gold.

Yeah, Reisch had a monster slalom run and Vonn had to go all out to keep pace. I'd guess that if she hadn't fought for Gold she would have been able to stay up and grab silver, but where's the fun in that?
Looking forward to more high velocity/g-force events over the next couple days: M & W super-G, speed skating, bobsled and skeleton.

I guess with the exception of x-c skiing and curling, what I love about the winter olympics are the elements of speed, g-forces and height. Just heard that in addition to setting a record the other day for American Olympic medals in one day, we broke a record for (American?) alpine skiing medals in one Olympics with 5 or 6 events still to come. Bode Miller also now posesses the record for individual American Olympic medals despite not having won any in Torino (I think), and he still has 2 or 3 events to race. Indeed, this is shaping up to be the most successful American Olympics ever, even if you don't include our personal sport, freestyle snowboarding.

Seriously, NBC isn't showing the US- Canada game on the network?
At this point in time I'm thinking that the NBC president lost a bet and has to go through 2010 making every wrong possible decision, or maybe its an ongoing bet to see how long he can go before getting fired. Or maybe Isiah Thomas is running things. |

congrats to Bode Miller... I saw him play outfield for 4 innings for the Nashua Pride (RIP).. He actually did pretty well in the field, he was 4 for 4 in defensive chances... one play he misjudged a ball but still made the catch. He really couldn't get around on pro pitching, but I remember he tipped off a foul ball. I would have bunted, but I'm sure he would have been plunked during the next at bat. They apparently thought ice dancing would get the whole "Dancing with the Stars" demographic - they were marketing it as such. I'll be interested to hear what the viewer ratings wind up being.

Quick - everyone LOL at Canada.
USA wins 5-3.
Why would we ever PH for Varitek? I mean, what if we PH for him, and it goes to extras, and vic martinez gets eaten by
dinosaurs? We'd have to use the emergency catcher.

Well they now have a matchup with Germany which they should win but they have a potential Quarterfinal matchup with Russia. Not what Canada wants to see that early.
