Posts: 7332 12/11/09 2:39 PM Mike Andrews Executive Editor SoxProspects, LLC	Tags : None Saturday is the deadline for teams to tender 2010 contracts to unsigned players. Basically, that means the deadline to tender deals to arbitration and pre-arbitration players. Pre-arb players who teams don't want to tender typically get the boot before the November 20 deadline, so tomorrow's deadline mostly relates to arbitration eligible players. On the Sox, that includes Manny Delcarmen, Jonathan Papelbon, Hideki Okajima, Ramon Ramirez, Brian Anderson, Casey Kotchman, Jeremy Hermida, and Boof Bonser. The Sox will tender contracts nearly all of these players, but Brian Anderson is a prime candidate to be non-tendered. There were also some rumors that Kotchman was a non-tender candidate, but the Sox have recently stated that Kotchman will indeed be tendered a contract before the deadline. Hell, I'd include a "guaranteed to be on ML roster by date X" clause. Both seem fit the Eric Hinske mold. Veteran Member Posts: 986 12/11/09 3:47 PM	Sergio Mitre would be interesting in the swing-man role Gomes could potentially be a decent platoon partner with hermida Atkins isn't a bad "worst case" scenario for filling the hole at 3B Jenks and Accardo are both intriguing as well. Otherwise, lots of solid players available to mid-market teams, just not too many that fit the specific needs of the Red Sox.

Rookie Posts: 15 12/11/09 5:02 PM	If we do not want to go with Beltre at third, and would consider sticking with Kotchman (who bats lefty) at first, Conor Jackson (who bats righty) might be a good pick up. Heck, if we really were taking 2010 as a "Bridge Year", adding Jackson and rotating him, Kotchman and Hermida (who also bats lefty) through 1B and LF might be a pretty good option. All three of them have been highly regarded prospects with similar (though not exact of course) pedigrees ...

Also it might be worth kicking Wang's tires. Considering the dearth of 3Bs in the Sox system. Marte definitely should be considered. He had a very good year. I also agree about Jackson, although I can't imagine that Arizona will non-tender him. Atkins is a lousy fielder and seems to have forgotten how to hit. For some reason, I thought the list of potential non-tenders was a whole lot longer.

That means Atkins will become a free agent. Once a team tenders a player, his rights belong to the team. If player and team cannot reach an agreement, the player's 2010 salary will be set by an arbitration panel in early spring. Under arbitration rules, a player cannot end up with a salary cut by greater than 20 percent from the previous year. Atkins, who made $7.05 million last year, was offered a multiyear deal two years ago. Rockies pitchers Jeff Francis, Aaron Cook and Manuel Corpas, outfielder Brad Hawpe, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and, now, Iannetta, all accepted deals that covered all or part of their arbitration years. Madness is like gravity....all you need is a little push.

Yeah, he's been injured the past two years, but are the Yankees going to not offer the guy a contract when he could very easily step in and be a mid-rotation innings eater? It wouldn't be the best idea to plan their year around having him, but it seems like it'd be worth it to them to hang on to him and possibly face the problem of having to find a spot for him.

Veteran Member Posts: 311 12/12/09 10:40 AM	Amezega is a terrific all position guy that would be very useful and a great cheerleader/clubhouse guy always. He would be a good guy to add as a super utility, much like Bloomquist, only minus the speed if the Fish non tender him. Was bothered by nagging injuries most of last year, but is a pretty useful piece with the bat most of the time still when healthy, even as a pinch hitter. Wang is another that would like to see the Sox medical team try and fix, he would seem to be a guy that might be able to fix and if the NYY non tender him, he may want to tweak them back here?
