Well, here is some news on Bay :
He told one of his old team mates from Pitt. that he'd "stand on his head and sing" to play for Seatle. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/bay-wants-to-play-for-seattle.html |

The Globe's Peter Abraham is at the Winter Meetings and will be chatting in about 20 mins.....
Reportedly not much other news from Indy right now other than that it's snowing there (everyone there seems to have tweeted this fact this morning).

Rumor going around that Burrell was traded to the Mets, possibly with Milton Bradley going to the Rays and the Cubs signing Mike Cameron...

12:30 Nick Pietruszkiewicz: From Buster Olney: Seattle unlikely to get involved on Jason Bay. I find that hard to believe. I still think JBay signs with Seattle. |

Word being passed around, nothing on Edwin.
Also, Mets not players for Aroldis. More to come later. |

Yeah, unless the Yankees gave up a buttload, the thought of them adding Granderson and Jackson scares me quite a bit. Both those players add one or a few
elements to what the Yankees need (dependable depth in the rotation, youth in the outfield) and would certainly make them quite a bit better.
I know it's been said, like, a billion times, but if the Red Sox truly plan to compete with the Yankees next season they're going to have to add a dynamic talent (Halladay, etc.) in addition to acquiring/re-acquiring Holliday/Bay.
Why would we ever PH for Varitek? I mean, what if we PH for him, and it goes to extras, and vic martinez gets eaten by
dinosaurs? We'd have to use the emergency catcher.

Had a great first half last year, but other than that his numbers have been mediocre at this point. Unless NY sees something that is fixable that can help him consistently pitch like he did in the first half, then he's basically the same lottery ticket that the Sox have in Hermida. Lots of talent, but a gamble. With all the action supposedly going on around the two Detroit players, I'd be very interested to see what price Ny would pay.....

I get what you're saying with the Jackson-Hermida comparison, but here's the difference: Jackson fills a definite need for the Yankees, while Hermida
doesn't - and more than likely won't - for the Red Sox. While I agree that Jackson is really just an average AL starter, that is still clearly better
than anything the Yanks had at their back of the rotation last season (which really was the only major hole for the team). Hermida is (still) a big talent, but
it's very unlikely he'd be an upgrade over Bay this season, or that he'll go into this season as more than the team's 4th OFer. And needless to
say, 4th OFers are pretty much never as valuable as starting pitchers.
Again, I get what you're saying with the comparison, but I don't think the two players are comparable when looking at the context of each of their respective situations.

If the information from both Gammons and Olney is correct I think it is likely Granderson sticks put. According to Olney the Tigers want Hughes and Jackson
for Granderson and Gammons said the Tigers asked the Cubs for Starlin Castro and two other prospects.
I don't see a team biting on that high of a price, Jackson though seems to be gone any time now. |

buffs44444 wrote: Seriously? The eight or so times that Gonzalez faces Granderson in 2010 would have a minimal, if any, impact whatsoever. Signing a reliever in anticipation of facing a particular hitter within your division is utterly ridiculous. Signing him because he is a quality arm is a different story. |
