"Hulett, originally drafted in the 14th round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Texas Rangers, spent parts of four seasons with the Rangers organization before being traded to Seattle for Ben Broussard. He made his major league debut on July 10, 2007 with Seattle and hit .224 in 30 major league games that season. Hulett appeared in 15 games with Kansas City last year, hitting .111."

Showed some nice walk rates and a little pop in the minors...nice depth option if he has some legit ss ability.

Seriously though, the Nick Green analogy is a good one - and this is Nick Green when we acquired him last offseason, not what he wound up being when he played well over his head in ST and early in the season. Based on his defensive stats, he seems like more of a tweener, utility infielder, AAAA-type. He can play the infield and corner outfield spots but has seen most of his time at second. He also has an option left, meaning he can be useful quick-depth for the Major League club should injuries hit, then be sent down with little-to-no repercussions.

I think he was acquired for the jokes.

Seriously though, he could have the most bizarre stat combo I've ever seen. Last year: LD rate = 36% / BABIP .167. I guess one assumes he mastered the Varitekian soft liner to second? Has had good LD rates for the past few years though which is encouraging on the face of it.

Just wanted to say that Singer has disallowed me from posting new topics ever since my Freddy Guzman thread. He seemed very upset about my opinions and was almost hostile in his responses. Fun with small sample sizes:
18 AB's, minus 6 strikeouts = 12 balls in play. A .333 BABip would've resulted in 4 hits; instead, he got 2. So he was possibly robbed of two hits. Not quite bizarre.

Hulett was DFA to make room for 5 players added to 40-man to protect from Rule 5.
Trade prevents him from going on waivers.
The roster limit of 40 helps to clarify that KC's role is to develop second-tier prospects for teams such as BOS that have no interest in developing a full 40-man roster on their own.
("No stockpiling is allowed.")

Guys, I was not trying to say it was indicative, predictive, or anything else significant. I am aware that 19 ABs is 19 ABs. It was just funny to see that line, and was posted for entertainment only. Take it easy.

Second point stands - guy has put up solid LD rates. And shown good plate discipline. It's a good depth acquisition and gives us a fun name to root for. Like it.
