Also, just getting the Toronto ace might cost Buchholz. Would you be willing to give up that much? Will Toronto accept less? Discuss.

If we could swing a trade for Roy Halladay, we'd have to extend him or lose him after one year. Seeing that he'll be 33 in May, the length of that
extension is going to be tricky. The Sox might not want to go more than 4 years at 15 mil per, and I'm not sure that's enough. What is everyone's
sense of what he'd cost per year, and what would you be willing to pay.

Honestly, having Halladay in our rotation would be awesome but like you said, we would have to swing a trade. We would have to give up a lot for one of the
best pitchers in the AL. So let's say we do get him, give up a lot, and then have to worry about re-signing him? I mean I think it would be awesome to have
him for one year, but is it worth it for what we would have to give up? I trust Theo in the decisions that he and the Front Office make, but I truly doubt that
Halladay is with us come April.
I would never offer him a 4 year 60 million contract after next year. That would be way too aggressive for a pitcher at his age. (Giving up Buchholz should not happen, unless it is for Gonzalez IMO) |

Twilliams, you would never sign Halladay then. Derek Lowe got just about 4/60, and he's a minor fraction of Roy Halladay. Halladay is absolutely worth any
contract he wants for the first 5 years; after that he'll probably start to lose velocity and effectiveness. Given his groundball tendencies, lack of
injury history, success in the ALE, and strong BB/9 rate he'll be effective even after a velocity loss.
I'm a fan of the package proposed somewhere on the main board: Bowden, Kelly, Lowrie, Reddick. I'd say a bullpen arm might need to be thrown in (MDC or RR?). Edit: forgot to add my "contract proposal". 6Y/108MM.

ScottLevison wrote: I am not in favor of sending much high ceiling talent north in this deal but I would drive Bowden to Toronto for one year of Halladay and the compenstion picks when he sighs elsewhere the following season. West, Buch, Kelly and Lars should really be the only potential deal breakers. I don't think Halladay should be worth too much in terms of talent since he'll be asking for 20 x 6 shortly after and has already announced that the Jays have no chance of resigning him. |

I'm already on the plane escorting Bowden to Toronto. Lars isn't even close to a deal breaker. Nor is Kelly. Maybe Buch. Westy is a dealbreaker for me.
It's really the combination of talent that's the potential issue. And it's the Buch and Kelly combo that's been thrown around that won't
work. I doubt the Jays will get an offer anywhere near that, so we shouldn't need to even consider that.
Seriously, you guys think you're getting Halladay without giving up Buch, Kelly, Westy, Lars, or Bowden? Put yourself in the shoes of the Jays GM, would you make without any of those guys? You have to give up something to get something and quantity is not a substitute for quality.

I would be more than willing to throw Lars, Bowden, and Reddick in a trade for Halladay. I like all 3 of those guys as near ready ML players but I don't
see any of them (at the moment) as perrenial All-Stars, they should all be decent players at least. The problem is, if I'm willing to part with them,
there's a good chance it wouldn't be enough for Toronto. They are all in AA and AAA and I feel like none of those guys are deal breakers in the least.
If you can make this deal and keep Buch, Kelly, and Westy then Theo is amazing. I'd even huck in another 10-20 type if it got it done. Go with four pretty
good guys instead of two studs.

I can't see how Bowden carries any value in this potential trade let alone him being a center piece. If I'm Toronto I'm taking Weiland or Menedez
or Stolmy waaaay before I'm touching Bowden. Who cares if he's close as a 5th starter or middle relief pitcher? No disrespect to Michael. He'll
probably have a nice career in the majors, doing what he's going to do, but it's pretty clear it's not going to be all-star level. There's
nothing wrong with that, but give me the kids that have the potential to reach higher cielings even if it comes with a greater potential they don't make it
over the kid I have a much better read on being a 4/5 starter type and not much more... Especially when I'm playing in the AL East

I could see Bowden as an important piece. He would give them a 5th starter on the cheap. I wouldnt want him as our 5th start come April but he would be fine
for the Jays. You dont build a deal around him but he would be more valuable to the Jays than us.

I'd offer the Blue Jays the following package:
Lars Anderson Michael Bowden Jed Lowrie Josh Reddick Felix Doubront Manny Delcarmen or Casey Kotchman and cash Lars Anderson is still 1 year away but could be their 1st baseman for years. Bowden would give them a solid 4th or 5th starter. Lowrie could take over at shortstop for Scutaro. Reddick would be a nice addition to their outfield. Doubront is a talented pitcher. Delcarmen could help their bullpen or be converted as a starter while Kotchman could build the bridge at first till Anderson is ready. Toronto would gain 2 top 5 prospects while the Sox would still have Buchholz, Westmoreland and Kelly. |

This is speculation for my own entertainment, but that's what this forum is for, right?
So I had heard previously that the Jays would be shopping Aaron Hill around. He has big league experience at third and we could use a corner infielder. From the things I've read, there's rumors that some other big names could be involved if there's a trade for Halladay... and also that the Sox are trying to work a deal without including Buchholz. But if we could get Hill added to the deal by including Buchholz and a few other solid prospects, would ya do it? I'll use German RSN's package as an example. Maybe you include Buchholz in that and one of Bowden/Doubront, plus Lars, Lowrie, Reddick, MDC. |

So I had heard previously that the Jays would be shopping Aaron Hill around.Do you have a source for this? Hill was the Blue Jays MVP last year, is a Gold Glove second baseman, and is signed to a very team-friendly deal with options in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Oh, and he will only be 28 next March. Does it really make sense that he would be available? Seriously? Edit: I just reread your post, and you were talking about a trade for Hill and Halladay. That's hilarious. |
