There has been speculation that the Phillies will be in the market for a closer this offseason after Lidge's dreadful 2009. I for one, would not be upset if the Sox shopped Papelbon around, and tried the closer by committee approach in 2010 (or maybe a L/R closer combo of Wagner/Bard), I remember Closer by Committee was a disaster several years back, however I think that it had more to due with the arms that were closing than the idea itself. Anyway, I've been extremely impressed with the numbers that Phillies OF prospect Michael Taylor has put up over the past few years, and knowing that this board is highly up to date on minor league prospects would like to know what would have to be added on either side to make a Papelbon/Taylor deal work? I have read some reviews that have indicated Taylor won't hit at the MLB level, but have yet to see anything with his minor league performance that would seem to back that up. Would/should the Sox take Lidge back in the deal (and his salary off the Phils hands), would the Phillies have to sweeten the deal, would the Sox? I'd love to hear some thoughts from members of this board.

Which A) is not a closer by committee, and B) is more talented than Byung-Hun Kim, Mike Timlin, Ramiro Mendoza, Alan Embree and Brandon Lyon. I am in love with Clayton Kershaw. I want him in me. - Curll84 |

Why not Bard and Wagner in the 9th?

And if you look at those pitchers' stats coming into that year, and what realistic expectations were, it compares reasonably with what the Sox bullpen would look like entering 2009 without Papelbon.
