I think you're missing the point, he's not going to be the hitting coach, he's going to be in charge of helping Francona with pregame preparations and ingame decisions, I think that makes Tek the perfect solution. They clearly need a change at hitting coach, but that's not what Tek would do. They always talk about his ability to prepare and call a game, well he can do both for Victor next year from the bench. He would essentially have a similar job to doing what he's going to do next year anyway, minus the 1 start everytime through the rotation and some added responsibility off the field. I think his cerebral baseball ability has clearly surpassed his physical abilities at this point and even he should start to realize it. I can't imagine offseason conditioning is getting any easier on him.

Well, they're going to have to pay it to him anyway. And with at least two other guys in the organization whom we think should be backing up Victor, it doesn't make much sense to keep him on the roster. So maybe you recoup some value with him as a coach.
