ALCS-Yankees v. Angels |

The Angels are not smart baserunners.
Why would we ever PH for Varitek? I mean, what if we PH for him, and it goes to extras, and vic martinez gets eaten by
dinosaurs? We'd have to use the emergency catcher.

Unlikely contributions from players like Mathis tends to be a good sign if the Angels are going to have a chance. Of course, realistically they need to sweep
the next two games in LA before heading into the Bronx too......

Game 4 is a crucial game. Sabathia on short rest vs Kazmir. The Angels need to beat Sabathia at least once to win the series and this is their best chance.
Games 5+6 pitching matchups lean towards the Angels if they can survive tomorrow.

The ALCS has too much potential for frustration. Depending on the Angels to beat the Yankees? While listening to the announcers orally pleasure one Yankee
after another? Yikes.
Now Manny vs Pedro, that's a good series - my boy wins either way. Hey, another excellent play in the field from Manny. Brother can play LF for my team any day.

If I found a genie's lamp one of my three wishes would be to reverse the fates of Corey Lidle and Derek Jeter.

Scott Boras, following up his now-daily media briefings on his clients, remains perched behind home plate. Patiently, he stalks the camera the hunter.
In other news, the runner was out..... EDIT: the appeal was a make-up call for the blatant miss at second.

There have been 5 hits so far in the NLCS - 4 of them have left the park. Imagine how many home runs will be hit if the World Series will be played between the
Yanks and Phils.

I hope to see Ryan Howard hit a broken bat homer off Rivera at New Yankee Stadium.

I don't see a World Series thread, so I'll post this here.
Anyone know why the Phillies have not considered starting Happ? The Phillies definitely have an AL offense that will finally give the Yanks a challenge (I hope) and lets not forget they are the defending champs. But, Pedro and Hamels do not match up well against the Yanks IMO. You have to at least think about using Happ right? I mean, any Yankee fan will tell you that nothing scares them more than good, young pitching that the lineup has yet to see. |

Union4Sox wrote:Most likely due to Happ's innings limits. Happ had 118IP in 2007, 160IP in 2008, and in his first full year in the majors he's already over 170IP this year. I would imagine that the Phils will use him as much as possible in the WS however. Also, we'll post a WS thread as soon as the match-up is set......which probably means later tonight after the Angels lay down.

buffs44444 wrote: I have to be honest, i still don't think Happ is very good. I think he's just been lucky. He doesn't strike guys out (6.45 K/9), he doesn't have a low walk rate (just over 3 BB/9) and he certainly doesn't get ground balls (0.56 G/F). Unless he keeps this up for another few years, I'd easily take Hamels or Pedro over him when it matters. I take it you both wholly disagree with that opinion? edit: Then again...with the exception of Pedro's walk rate, Pedro and Hamels have pretty blah peripherals this year as well. I'd still rather one of them though.

During Happ's BABIP (NL average) during hot streak: men on .196 (.301), RISP .143 (.295), 2 outs and RISP .093 (.287).
Luck doesn't begin to describe it. |

Is it bad that I'm kinda happy about this?

I don't care if it's ARod, you don't put the tying run on base intentionally with 2 outs in the 9th. I hope the Yankees make them pay for this.

"I always liked Nick Swisher, and even with the pin stripes I don't hate his guts. He's basically the only guy on the team I don't loathe. This absolutely guarantees he does something significant this post season to help the Yankees win in a big spot." edit: Thank god.

Forever Red 9 wrote: That's what I said. I don't care how hot A-rod has been hitting but you never put the tying run on base and bring the go ahead run to the plate. At most, you pitch around A-rod and see if he can chase something down and away. Girardi can't seem to win with the way he handles his pitching staff. |

Fuentes is the epitome of a heart attack closer. He was channelling his inner "Don Stanhouse" again last night. They would be better using someone
like Santana as two or three inning closer than Fuentes who is just not suitable for October baseball.
