Surprised Vlad didn't swing at that.

What an awful, awful, awful job by Buchholz. He completely unraveled in this inning. Not to mention the awful 2-strike pitch he threw to Hunter to start this
disaster. Special shoutout to Mike Lowell for not helping out his pitcher on a routine groundball to his left.

Bard is a monster.

...... and now the thinking man's game begins.
It's tempting to bring Bard back out for the 7th since he threw only 8 pitches - then you could get through the rest of the game with only Wagner and Paps. But if the Sox go with somebody else they can have Bard for the rest of the series, and they may need him for the last two games. Maybe go with Wagner in the 7th and Saito in the 8th? Of course, the Sox could make the decision easier if they scored some runs here. |

Well, the die is cast. Bard through the 7th means that he would be best putting in only a cameo appearance (for 1-2 particular hitters) at most tomorrow.
Better he's skipped completely. Presumably Wagner and Paps cover the 8th and 9th today, and so the pen might be a bit winded tomorrow. The other
possibility is to mix and match in the 8th - Oka to face Abreu, Saito for Hunter/Vlad, Wagner for Morales if it comes to that - to keep some of the business
end fresh for tomorrow.

Here we go. Is this going to be another playoff choke from Wagner?
Not very inspiring to walk Guerrero after you have him down 0-2. |

The entire inning is on the back of Youkilis. He came up very very small.

It just wouldn't be a Red Sox game without Papelbon making it a nail biter.

Huge mistake by Willits right there. I know they wanted to send him to score on a double but you cannot get picked off.
