For those of us who weren't born when Pearl Harbor was attacked or when President Kennedy was shot, 9/11 will be the day that we will never forget. I don't think the images of that day can be forgotten.
It is a day to say a prayer for the families who lost a loved one. I think it is very appropriate for Staten Island and Lowell to take the day off and play tomorrow.

Terrific game last night. Both teams really reached down deep. Much better than typical Low-A ball. Asheville played stellar defense at short and second and robbed us of some sure hits. As usual, they ran like rabbits on the basepaths. Lavarnway a good night behind the plate; got one CS and should have had another except for a questionable call. Hitting stars were obviously Dening, but also Zach Gentile, who doesn't get the respect he is due. He worked a walk with good plate discipline, ripped a double, and scored a hustling run. Through half the game, we only hit four balls in the air; lots of ground balls. Williamson looked good, but Kehrt even better. Really good command of his breaking stuff made his FB even better. Asheville's reliever Brothers was really bringing the heat, which made Dening's blast all the more satisfying. Kudos also to Tejeda, who had SP Houston's number early on with 2 solid hits to the outfield and chased Houston when he was scheduled to bat once more with 2 outs in the 7th.

Mitch Dening's leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Greenville Drive a 3-2 win over the Asheville Tourists on Friday night and a two-game sweep of their South Atlantic League semifinal series.
"It still hasn't settled in. It's one of those things, I'm thinking, 'Oh my god, did that just happen?'" said the 21-year-old Australian. "He was just throwing gas, throwing so hard, like 97 [mph]. I put a good swing on one early and just missed it. I put another good swing on it, got it out somehow. I don't know how it got over."

Dening had been 1-for-10 in the series before the walk-off blast.

"I was hitless before that at-bat, but I didn't change anything," he said. "I've been trying to do too much instead of just sticking with my plan. That pitch I hit out, I wasn't trying to do much. It was a bit lucky.

"It was weird. Before the game, I told someone, 'Man, I'm going to hit a walk-off today.' Coming up to that at-bat, I tried to swing for the fence on the first pitch. I don't know, it's weird -- we were talking about it before the day started."

"I'm hoping [the momentum carries over]," Dening said. "We haven't been hitting well as a team, but hopefully, we get it together."

Mike Jones launched the Salem Red Sox into the Carolina League Championship Series with a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning Friday night at Lewis-Gale Field.
"I might not have a million bucks, but I feel like a million bucks," the 24-year-old first base prospect said after his walk-off blast helped Salem to a 6-4 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash and a three-game sweep of the Southern Division Finals. "To do this on the big stage is just incredible."

"He threw me an off-speed pitch and I put a good swing on it," said Jones, who drilled the offering far over the right-field wall to send the crowd of 3,035 and his teammates into a frenzy.

The dramatic moment may not have been possible without yet another clutch hit by Red Sox third baseman Jonathan Hee, who batted a blistering .538 with four RBIs in the series.

"Hee has been tearing it up," Jones noted. "It was a great come-from-behind victory for this team."
