Lars' post ASB slug % is under 2. This isn't normal struggle and it's not indicative of the type of player he is. Something is wrong either mentally or physically. I think we should pretty much throw the year out and and freeze him in our mental rankings. I don't mean we should pretend like this didn't happen. It did, so he's not the #1 prospect in the system. That much is clear. But it's also probably a bad idea to continue judge him until we know what's up. This is not Lars.

aminahyaquin: Alou is a 37 year old 7 time MVP with a .347 lifetime batting average and a world of hustle. he can golden glove field in his sleep.
tGG: Alou is actually 42, has never won an MVP, has a .303 lifetime batting average, and is mediocre at best in the field.

And then he homers. Place is 3/4 and Nava has two doubles. Interesting stuff going on offensively in Portland.

Awhile back I stated in a post about the lack of offensive performance among position prospects that Nava was the guy hitting .350 (at the time), and he wasn't going anywhere. I'm starting to wonder about this.

All of his stuff is SSS. But the guy can obviously hit the ball, and he can play at least a passable corner OF. Portland has only about a dozen games left in the season, so Nava can't build up enough of a resume to blow the SSS caution out of the water. He turns 27 during spring training next year. Given his age, if nothing changes significantly before the end of this year (he ends the year hitting in the high .300's or better, with a 1.000+ OPS), don't the Sox almost have to bring him to major league spring training next year to see what they've got, and give him at least the puncher's chance at a major league roster spot?

Alex Wilson has been ridiculous this year, regardless of age and his pitching for a major college program it is still impressive .

tonight: 3IP 3/0 K/BB 0ER,(side note General Westmoreland is 1-2 with 2bb looks like he will finish the night hitting an even .300)

I agree with this. Considering they brought Charlie Zink to spring training this year at age 29, I don't see why they cant invite Nava there. Maybe if the guy pans out, he can be a late bloomer, kind of like a Garret Jones or Nelson Cruz (just age relation). But this is just my opinion.

Nava came into our system BA's top ranked independent league free agent. Because he lacked the tools to really be taken seriously, he found himself riding the pines. Due to a few promotions and injuries, he finally got a shot last year and went on to win the Cal League batting title. This year, more of the same, riding the bench because of the shortage of tools. Finally when Bell and Reddick were promoted, he got another shot and is once again tearing it up. Nice story but the problem here is that it's not likely to have a happy ending. Like Pedroia, he just doesn't have the tools to ever be a successful major leaguer.

LCBF, Nava has not sat the bench this year. He missed the start of the season with an oblique injury.

And please don't compare Dustin Pedroia with Daniel Nava. Not even the slightest bit close to the same situation.

I'm only comparing the success relative to the tools and relative to the respect he's received. This year, after he returned to the roster, after the oblique, he still didn't get many ABs until space cleared. Last year, he was completely healthy and didn't get many regular AB's until significantly into the season.

Not true LCBF. At all. Nava came off the DL on 6/12. He played the next six games. He then missed four games before returning to the DL because he re-aggravated the oblique (it is my understanding this is actually the case, and it wasn't a phantom DL trip). After coming back off the DL on July 10, he played 18 consecutive Salem games before being promoted to Portland. In Portland, he has played 17 consecutive games without an off day. Note that these are all starts. As for last year, I didn't argue with you about that, although I'd point out that he kind of forced his way into the lineup by performing very well in his chances at playing time, and didn't just benefit from spots opening up due to injury.
