I didn't get any student tickets because UConn's AD still hasn't changed the bullshit student ticket lottery system.

The rebounding is a mystery to me. Yes, the team lost a 7'3 guy and one of its best pure rebounders and history, but they're still starting players who are 6'9, 6'10, and 6'9 up front (I don't count Okwandu as a starter since he's terrible and really only being used to send Gavin a message). Gavin's a really solid player, but I've never seen someone who misses blockouts on such frequent occasions - including off missed free throws. Oriakhi's is the only good rebounder on this team, but even he misses quite a few blockouts (although in his defense, he's just a freshman and literally has no help on the glass). The fact that UConn got seriously outrebounded by a bunch of unathletic, baking-soda white bitches from dook was beyond embarrassing.

I'm excited too about Majok, but at the same time I'd be a little cautious with expectations. Since you really can't listen to a word that Calhoun says (no pun intended - the guy is next-to-impossible to understand), it's tough to get a good read on what Majok may be able to contribute based on the information available. But if he is anything close to as good as advertised, then we're in business and looking at a potential top 10 team by the end of the season.

There's sorta seniority - seniors get their name in the lottery the most, then juniors, then sophomores, then freshmen. Even for seniors there's barely a guarantee of getting tickets. But hey, at least the rich old people get to sit behind one of the baskets and sit on their asses all game.

I actually think Majok is gonna step in and be a contributor offensively right away. He's a very skilled offensive player (based on the little I've seen) - he can handle, shoot it, and he's a solid athlete. If I were to guess, though I'd say that he'll struggle some on the defensive end, particularly when the team gets into the meat of the Big East schedule. He'll probably get his blocks and rebounds (dude has like a 7'5 wingspan or something), but I doubt playing in Australia for a few years will have prepared him for the talent he's gonna see this season.

We shall see, though. Talent is definitely there, and I'm excited to see the team get back to the running game for the first time since about 2003. They're gonna need Kemba to at least learn how to decently run an offense in order for them to reach its potential as a top 10 team.

Email the sports editor, and start going to the meetings next semester. If you show up, they'll find something for you - it's really as simple as that.

It's worth a try. They're losing a lot of people after this year, so the sooner you get involved the faster you'll get to start writing about football. I know it's annoying because there's a lot of crappy people writing articles about the good teams, but if you stick with it you'll eventually get your chances to cover the team.

Plus, the football team gets a lot of press - especially early in the year before there's any bball news - so you'll most likely get to cover them to at least some extent next year (even if you're not the feature writer).
