When unemployment was really low the service in restaurants was really awful. I actually had a waiter tell me when coming to the table for the first time he
was the worst waiter in the world "because I wasn't born to wait on other people, I was born to be waited on". He was right.
For my nomination to this list, I'll go with House of Nanking in San Francisco. Bring $15 (cash only), and don't be shocked if your waiter changes your order because he doesn't like it.

I'm gonna let you guys in on a huge secret here:
Best brewpub in the state. Locally grown everything (including local grass fed beef). Beer on traditional hand-pumped casks. And thanks to being in Greenfield, it's cheap and delightfully hipster-free.

If you like Japanese food, Yoka Homa is the best there is.
I'm not sure if ice cream places really count, but the Dairy Bar at UConn is pretty incredible. Everything is made right there on the farm.
On the other hand if your tools suck and your skills are excellent you're either not highly regarded or you're Pedroia.

As a UMass grad I can definitely appreciate the People's Pint.
My favorite place in Amherst was the Fresh Side Cafe.... I lived on the Tea rolls. In the Boston area: New Ginza (Watertown): Best sushi around. Very pleasant service. Always good. RF O'Sullivans (Somerville): Their steak fries are about 1/4 a potato each and the burgers are delicious if you don't mind waiting for the think patties to cook. Byblos (Norwood): Top notch middle eastern cuisine. Bill's Pizzeria (Newton): very good pizza. |

Chavo, love it. I live near New Ginza now, go there all the time. Better than almost all of the high end sushi places in Boston. I also used to live across the
street from O'Sullivans for about five years. I miss it, great burgers. Although I might like Wild Willy's better. Anyone in the area should try La
Casa de Pedro in Watertown - awesome, awesome Venezuelan food.
I'm headed out to the Oak Room and Smith & Wollensky in Back Bay this weekend. Excited to head into the city, I've been stuck on Watertown and Newton restaurants for the last year and a half since my daughter was born. |

sometime.

Not a fancy restaurant by any means but I am a big fan of the Halfway Cafe. Very good deals for food and they have a 7 for 7 that is different each month.

Those wings are very good. I did not like the 7 for 7 menu last month but I saw July's and it looks pretty good.

For anybody in the Portland Metro in Maine: Bray's Brewpub and Eatery in Naples, ME. Signature dish is a heaping mound of pulled pork on a bun, very good.
They also brew their own beer. The only microbrewery in the Sebago lakes region.
One place I accidentally stumbled upon in Boston is Woody's Grill and Tap. Tiny place, but I give the pizza high marks. Right in the middle of the Fenway-Prudential-Northeastern triangle on Hemenway St. |

Agreed on La Casa de Pedros. I've been there a handful of times and always been very happy.
I'm definitely in the minority on Wild Willy's. It's good, but in my experience it was inconsistent. I've eaten there about 15 times and on multiple occasions came away with an extremely over cooked burger. I hate well done burgers. The buttered buns are tasty and when it is good, it is very good, but consistency matters. Then again, I worked in the restaurant industry from age 15 through 22 so I can sympathize with the occasional mistake. New Ginza is easily the thing I miss most about Watertown. We used to make it there weekly - now we're lucky if it's once a month. I've had every specialty Maki on the menu. There is a new place that just opened in Norwood that i would recommend people check out. It is called Paprika and it is a hole in the wall in downtown Norwood. It's casual, inexpensive, and very good quality. Mediterranean inspired cuisine. The paella is excellent. |

For anybody that ventures down to the cape The Coast Resteraunt in Orleans is great. The Hearth and Kettle is still good for eating on the cheap in Yarmouth
and Orleans, not so much the other ones.

One of my favorite places to eat in the North End is Giavanni's on Prince Street.
