For me, personally, watching him play in Trenton was one of the first vivid memories I have as a Red Sox fan. I will never forget how every AB he had in his prime was must-see TV. I still don't think there is someone in the league who hits the all as consistently hard as he did, steroid-aided or not.

You couldn't get the guy out. He'd murder every fastball and somehow slap a breaking ball in the LH batter's box into RF for a single. Before the wrist injury, he used to slam outside fastballs into the bullpen consistently and generate some of the best batspeed in the business. The at-bats where he didn't drill a liner into a gap were an abberation in those glorious days of Troy O'Leary and The "Dauber" protecting him in the lineup.

Ah, I had the pleasure of catching his replacement for his entire career, but really would have enjoyed seeing Teddy BG, besides only seeing him as the manager of the lowly Washington Senators in the late 60's, early 70's.

Then I looked up Varitek's OPS against LH this year and found that it was 1.041. Maybe the guy ought to be batting cleanup!!

He said his dream was to start his career in a Boston uniform and end it in one...and that's still his dream. Would be nice to bring him back for a year in a utility role. Impact. Dominate.
