Anyone see the Knicks-Nuggets brawl tonight. Great brawl. Awesome sucker punch by Carmelo Anthony on Marty Collins.

Sucker punch, sucker slap. Tomato, tomaato. There's no player I would have pegged for a sucker-slap and run-type more than 'Mela. He couldn't even stand there and fight his own battle, he had to run back to his bench. He's smart though, because Collins would have pounded him out.
It's a shame what materialized between Collins and Smith; both the best players on their respective teams. But Collins had a job to do and he did it. I would have rather he did it to Andre Miller, but you have to take your shots while you can. Whatever, no shame in a hard foul every now to keep the other team honest. I know every player is going to think twice about dunking the ball when Collins is on their trail. And that's the way it should be. Sometimes these Philly cats need to regulate. Which was exactly what happened a month ago when Alonzo Mourning tried his typical pseudo-tough-guy schtick, Marc Jackson called him on it, and Mourning was quick as hell to back down like he relapsed or something. Though it's been covered up by the media, the European invasion in the league has also jump-started the pussification of the NBA. Cheers to old-time, hard-nosed basketball. Even if it only jumps up once a year or so. Kushi he lacks professionalism and his evaluation of talent in my mind is pretty poor.

Not trying to disrespect a "Philly cat" or whatever, but I kinda disagree with ALMOST everything you said. So as to not TT your post though and take up 500 lines with 47,000 out of context quotes, I think I'll just address it as a whole.
I guess what we agree on is that the brawl was a bad thing, and that hard fouls are and should be a part of the game. There's a reason you get free-throws. Otherwise . . . Even if you're not a 'Melo fan (and I'm a pretty big fan), I don't see how you can call J.R. Smith (who I also like alot and think was the steal of the offseason) the better player. The Mardy Collins thing I'll assume was just a joke. Also, how can you not like Andre Miller, who I think is one of the best point guards (top 5?) in the league and has been over the past 5ish years. Furthermore, the internationalization of the game, in my opinion, has been great; and there's no problem with finesse basketball - that's what separates the NBA from the SEC and is the reason why skilled players are better than Darius Miles. The rest I'll just assume is the usual NJ/Temple . . . what have you . . . |

Collins with a typical Temple Goon move. Is Cheney one of Isiah's assistants now? Did Mardy make out with Nehemiah Ingram after the brawl?

For those of you not in "the know," Nehemiah Ingram is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. If Jones had not broken his arm when he landed, it would not have been a story. Mardy Collins is also a nice guy and always opened himself up to students if they wanted to do a report or interview with him. The only punk in the incident was Anthony, with his suckerpunch and then backpedal from the 150 lb. wonder Jared Jeffries.

Who would have thought a week or two ago that Allen Iverson would wind up being the starting shooting guard for the Nuggets AND a role model, whle Melo serves his sucker-punch suspension? Very interesting.
I for one am celebrating the 2 shiny new first round draft picks the Sixers acquired in what is said to be the best draft year since the 90s. Now if we can just fire Billy King and get someone who knows what he's doing to use our 3 (maybe more by then?) first round picks, this team can become a great TEAM rather than a poor team with a great individual player. Practice, man. I mean, we're talkin' about PRACTICE. |

Since it is good entertainment, I feel that now is an appropriate time to (re)post the infamous practice tirade from The Answer (and Larry Brown's fine ripost):
If Coach tells you that I missed practice, then that's that. I may have missed one practice this year but if somebody says he missed one practice of all the practices this year, then that's enough to get a whole lot started. I told Coach Brown that you don't have to give the people of Philadelphia a reason to think about trading me or anything like that. If you trade somebody, you trade them to make the team better...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The people in Philadelphia deserve to have a winner. It's simple as that. It goes further than that ... If I can't practice, I can't practice. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about practice. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about practice. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that? ... Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about practice. We're talking about practice man. We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about practice. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about practice right now. ... Hey I hear you, it's funny to me too, hey it's strange to me too but we're talking about practice man, we're not even talking about the game, when it actually matters, we're talking about practice ... How in the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing? [1] Allen Iverson at a press conference on May 8, 2002 He said "practice" more times than he's actually practiced. I don't usually endorse Bill Simmons on here, but he wrote a fantastic article about Iverson the other day:

Re: NBA Thread | #12 | ||

I think the Phillies made out really well in the deal. Having essentially a roster that is currently filled with supporting players who depend on Iverson to get shots, getting Andre Miller was a great move. Behind Nash, Kidd, and mabee Paul,I think Miller is one of the best passing PGs in the league, and he can score in the paint (not much 3pt range). He should work really nicely with Korver (spot-up shooter) and Iggy (slaher/finisher) so they can stay competitive now, and the 2 first round picks will allow the Sixers to get a lot of talent in the upcoming draft.
Miller, Igoudala, Korver, Webber, Dalembert is a solid starting 5. There's not much depth now, but add 3 first rounders and you've got a solid team that, aside from Webber, is pretty young and inexpensive. |

Quote: There is no maybe in that sentace...Paul is better than Miller, Bibby, and very soon (if not now) Deron Williams is also better, Miller is ok point gaurd but not someone I consider a top notch player, also Korver has no buisness starting, he is a bench guy who can shoot, but can't play d at all and is extremely limited offensively...Webber has aged quite a bit, and Dalambert is one of the more overrated players in the league...Iverson made everyone on his team better, I am not sure Andre Miller can be that type of impact player for them, but he is a solid vet who can help school the young players they will bring in via the draft |

Cleveland will never be a championship caliber team until they get a legitimate PF and at least a solid PG. It is beyond me how they made the finals.

I can't decide if this is funny or sad . . . blackmailing someone for playing time . . . yikes.
Stephon Marbury was quoted this morning in the New York Daily News as saying, ""Isiah has to start me. I've got so much (stuff) on Isiah and he knows it. He thinks he can (get) me. But I'll (get) him first. You have no idea what I know."
Wow. The Knicks are a sure bet for Page Six. After comments like this never expect to see Marbury on the court with the Knicks again or until Thomas is
fired. Hold onto him in fantasy leagues until he finds a new home. More to come for sure.
