The bottom line is more important than the win totals.are sox fans really that spoiled that we can't handle ONE year of not making big FA signings? the yankees did the same last year. and the last few BIG FA signings have not turned out well. Lakcey (no) Jenks (no) dice-k (no) CC (no so far). the last two off seasons we broke the bank, and still didn't make the playoffs

Fact of the matter is when Henry and Co. took over they said winning was the only thing they would accept. We haven't improved one bit on our team that missed the playoffs last year, in fact you could even argue that we got worse. So if that is spoiled, so be it. I am spoiled. If the owners came our and said we are going to worry about the bottom line before winning, I would be mad but could respect that. Talk is cheap. The team hasn't won anything in 4 seasons and missed the playoffs in the past two. Significant improvements needed to be made and they haven't even come close to doing that.Trading our starting shortshop who is likely one of the top 10 ones in the league...for literally nothing, is just plain dumb.

As long as they don't try to play it off like they are doing everything in their power to win....

In other words, don't be surprised if there is no other shoe to drop.... if getting under the tax is the major offseason motivation.I just posted about this in the Luxury Tax thread. The Sox can get under pretty easily now. In fact, at this point in time, they are under. Floyd's AAV is only 3.875M. If the Sox simply pick up Lackey's option or even win the Papi arbitration case, they could trade for Floyd and still be under the $178M mark.
The Scutaro trade frees up some $$ for #RedSox to make an "aggressive bid’’ for Roy Oswalt, said a baseball source
