Not that it matters now that it looks like this isn't going to happen, but I would say that Scutaro + Spaghetti monster < Oswalt + Iglesias.  You'd pretty much be punting the offense from the SS position, but the overall offense would still be one of the best in the league and with Oswalt the pitching would be very good as well.

I can certainly see both sides but I definitely disagree, especially with the Oswalt part.  He's a major risk at this point, and while it would be an upside play, I'd rather mitigate the overall team risk by keeping Scutaro and gambling on Bard/Aceves/Spaghetti than Oswalt's health and production AND Iglesias.   I don't believe Iglesias is ready, and I think he'd be so overmatched at the MLB level it would be a negative for his development.  He'll need to learn to hit at the MLB level and improve throughout his career, but expecting him to be an acceptable starting player (even with great defense) from opening day on is misguided faith.  I'd feel better about him if the OF situation wasn't so uncertain, and while the offense would remain elite it would add too much risk.  I'd like Oswalt on his team, but if the Red Sox aren't jumping on his supposed demands, there must be significant risk in his medicals.  Adding such uncertainty to the shortstop position would be a mistake to a team with so many question marks to being with.  I think there is a much better chance of the spaghetti producing near league average production until the deadline than Iglesias being an acceptable starter on a contender.  The entire conversation is pointless right now, but adding such risk just for the sake of clearing lux tax space would be awful.  I'd hope any trade for Scutaro would be based around a good return rather than a straight salary dump.
