The Red Sox don't have a prospect of the caliber of Montero - at least not in terms of trade value. This says nothing about the Red Sox desire to win. Shameful? Really?

If this offseason didn't show you that the owners are all about the bottom line, nothing ever will. They didn't need to go out and sign an Albert Pujols or a CJ Wilson. They just needed to sign a Paul Maholm or a Darren Oliver, but they were too cheap to.

And why would Darren Oliver help us? he's a reliever. I didn't really like Maholm, when I made a DIPS stat, he was last among qualifying pitchers, tied with John Lackey.

Veteran Member Posts: 369 01/13/12 8:50 PM	I wouldn't even call the trade terrific, it just makes a lot of sense for both sides. Both teams dealt from a position of strength to fill a need. Very fair, smart deal for both teams. I am a bit surprised Seattle and NY got together for a trade involving Montero after the Cliff Lee saga.

Safeco is death for RH sluggers (see Adrian Beltre), and Yankee Stadium is a HR-hitting contest vs RH flyball pitchers (see AJ Burnett, Javier Vazquez).

That could actually be scary in that line-up with that left field porch and another guy seeing a ton of pitches and getting on base at a good clip. I know he hasn't hit for average but he'd be a good fit at DH for 450 ab's or so while allowing Jeter and ARod to DH against lefties.
