Remember that one time the Red Sox passed on a chance of signing a possible top of the rotation starter because they felt good about the top of the rotation? Obviously he would not have worked in the back of the rotation.

I can make it more clear, if that helps: Ian Kennedy is in the top half (~75) of MLB starters (~150) in terms of talent, which is demonstrated by his two years of exceedingly good so:bb ratio and better than average SO rate, none of which has to do with his w-l record.

I think that I can identify the physical "talent" to pitch well on a relatively sustained pattern of actually pitching well. Therefore, I think he has good "stuff." But, I think that different people have different ideas as to what "talent" means, and we just approach the world from different directions. January makes for boring baseball discussions. My apologies.
