The guy was just being honest in his response to his interview. What's he supposed to do, stealthily sneak into Texas to visit his new players and keep it secret? Sheesh...

The pen is leaps and bounds better than it was a month ago. Really think Hill can be a huge part of it. On another note, Andruw Jones agrees to $2M + incentives deal with the MFY I love what Ben has been able to do in FA. He's improved the team while spending very little $ and giving up no top 15 prospects, a utility IF in Lowrie, and a RF who struggled for much of the 2nd half. Not only has it helped the 2012 team, but it seems to allow them to go after one of the bigger guys next offseason if necessary or potentially lock up Ellsbury Last Edited By: mredsox89 12/30/11 3:59 PM. I think Scott Hairston would also be a slight upgrade over McDonald. But that's the complete list of options that could play RF in Fenway and be an upgrade. I still vote for Ross on the assumption that his price will come down. ADD: Nady has a 3-year OPS of .659. Ludwick has a .661 OPS since being traded by St Louis a year and a half ago, and he has very reversed splits Spilborghs has a 3-year OPS of .714 and I'm not sure we want him in RF at Fenway. Veteran Member Posts: 62 12/30/11 5:08 PM	I'm happy that Rich Hill was re-signed. I know - small sample size, but was he ever impressive in his 8 innings! He was dominant. Easily the most eye opening performance by a Sox lefty out of the pen since Okajima was mystifying the league in 2007 (and I say that having enjoyed the month of Billy Wagner). So once he is healthy the pen could have two quality lefties in Morales and Hill and a solid 1-2 punch in Bailey and Melancon. Then there are the two question marks: Bobby Jenks and Rich Hill, and perhaps a guy like Michael Bowden (more likely) or Scott Atchison who is out of options. I was disappointed to see that the NY Yankees re-signed Andruw Jones for just $2 million base plus $1.4 million in incentives. That tells me they won't be spending any money for RF. That tells me that we shouldn't expect Cody Ross (although I'd prefer Jones) who'd make more money than that. And don't expect Marlon Byrd. So now we're looking at keeping McDonald, or going with Ryan Spilborghs, Xavier Nady, Scott Hairston, or Ryan Ludwick. Either that or they take a flier on somebody like Jai Miller.

Posts: 1424 12/30/11 5:20 PM Forum Moderator	Don't be so sure that the Sox didn't offer a comparable or even better contract to Jones and he just re-signed because he is comfortable in NY. For most of the offseason, it was presumed that he would re-sign in New York.

One thing that should be considered is that none of the starters other than Wilson have signed yet. The prices could be prohibitively expenses, or if you wait you might get someone on the cheap. For instance, Roy Oswalt certainly looks good in December, but this is a guy with a bad back who could easily be out for most of the season if the back issues reoccur. If there is anything that we know about back problems is that they ALWAYS reoccur. Is that a guy you want to guarantee $10M+ to? Kuroda is 37, and a soft tosser from the weaker league who pitched in one of the best home parks in the majors. Want to guarantee him $10M+ even for just one year? What they really need is a guy who will sign for $5M or less guaranteed, someone like that will likely be a high risk veteran pitcher whom you think might have some upside.

You have Rich Hill both as a sure-fire quality lefty and as a question mark.
