I'm not saying you have to do anything, I'm just suggesting people not act like children over a person accepting more money to do what they already do in a nicer city. Boo whoever you want, LeBron shouldn't have gotten so much hate for leaving Cleveland either. What he did wrong was how he treated the Cavaliers organization and broke the news of his decision. Leaving Cleveland is something I would hope everyone has the opportunity to do, especially LeBron.

If he did it like every other free agent in basketball history, people in Cleveland would still be upset, but 99% of the city wouldn't despise him and immediately start burning jerseys. Albert's situation is completely different, he won multiple championships, and he went out on a high note. Plus, the St. Louis fan is much different than the Cleveland fan. Apples and oranges imo. Right. No one said you didn't have the right to do it. As a paying fan, you have the right to boo Ryan Westmoreland too, but I doubt that you're going to do that. The question is why would you boo a guy just because he decided to work for an employer of his own choosing?

I hate to derail this thread with a discussion on LeBron James, but yeah him leaving probably would have had the same effect. He was that entire franchise. What I mean by his treatment of the organization is that there were many reports that top free agents refused to sign in Cleveland because they didn't want to sign there then watch him leave, so the organization was kind of hand cuffed. However, at the same time they had an opportunity to trade JJ Hickson for Amar'e and refused, instead bringing in. . . Antawn Jameson. With Amar'e that team would have gone to the Finals and probably would have won, which is what he always wanted. The Cardinals were very successful in bringing in talent and winning with Albert, which is what (I'm sure) he wanted. However they then expected to be able to get a hometown discount for a second time. It's not like he left over $5 or $10 mil. It was an extra $50 million GUARANTEED. He even turned down an offer that was $75 million higher than the Cards! All I'm saying is that the guy deserves no ire from us, although the Cardinals fans certainly have some beef.

At least Albert didn't schedule an hour on live TV to announce his decision, and at least Albert is modest and humble, at least he didn't leave a city with nothing. I actually had a spanish presentation on Albert Pujols this morning, I had to fix the second half of the project an hour before presenting when I found out about his signing. Lester, Youk and Pedroia's contracts have good value too. Its does stupid free agent deal that Theo got burn on. Glad he's out of here. The AL East is the hardest division on so many levels its not even funny. Great front offices, great scouting, great development of its players. The Red Sox have seem to be thinking that because they are the Red Sox no one will ever catch up. Am Dominican and you??

Unfortunately, when you are a big-budget team whose fans constantly clamor for those sorts of acquisitions (in 2011, see: Darvish, Yu; Buerhle, Mark), you're probably going to miss on many, perhaps even most of those contracts. Conversely, when you're the Rays and your biggest FA contract is Johny Damon, you tend not to give out too many terrible contracts.

Rosenthal says the trade is still "fluid" so more names could be involved. 3:59pm: The Diamondbacks plan to have Parker as their fifth starter next season so he's likely not the one going to the A's, tweets USA Today's Bob Nightengale. 3:42pm: The Diamondbacks are "closing in" on a trade with the Athletics that would send Trevor Cahill to Arizona in exchange for a prospect, reports John Gambadoro of Sports 620 KTAR in Phoenix (Twitter link). Gambadoro says the prospect isn't Trevor Bauer or Tyler Skaggs (Twitter links). We heard yesterday from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that Cahill had been mentioned in talks between the D'Backs and A's. Gio Gonzalez's name also came up between the two teams, with Rosenthal noting that the Snakes would need to deal Skaggs to get Gonzalez, but Cahill could be had for a lesser price. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic mentioned yesterday that "it's believed that [the D'Backs] focus" was on Cahill and mentioned Jarrod Parker as a candidate to go to Oakland in the swap.

Yet another solid argument for why John Henry should not renewed Lucchino's contract when it was up after this season and instead hired Andrew Friedman and CEO of Baseball Ops and given him a raise and a (small) percentage of the team. ADDED: I also like Cahill going forward over Gio, but seems like a moot point.

Posts: 1368 12/09/11 6:44 PM Forum Moderator	I think you're missing my point-- in the Boston media market, it is impossible that this team can avoid making expensive FA signings. If you make expensive FA signings, chances are they will not be be tilted in the team's favor and some will be outright busts. Not even the most brilliant GM can be consistently successful in that environment-- the odds are just tilted too far against them. Besides, Friedman's genius isn't spending on free agents, it's building up the farm system, which Theo/Cherington/co. have done a pretty damn good job of as well.
