I think other teams could put together better offers.

If the Sox were to acquire Hanley, it would obviously come with a commitment to keep him at SS. We'd need to trade at least two of Scutaro/Aviles/Lowrie/Iglesias. We'd be committing to Youk full-time at 3B. We'd have a terrible defensive left side in an organization (and ballpark) that emphasizes infield defense and groundballs. He's no longer on a cheap contract, but would still cost a boatload of prospects. We'd be going way over the lux tax limit. And SS is all the way at the bottom of our shopping list anyway.

I supposed Iglesias would be blocked by Reyes, but maybe that's where a third team comes in....the Brewers? Olney reported that Hanley was willing to move to 3B is his contract was "restructured." If he really meant it and it was even possible, let's restructure the shit out of it and put him wherever we want.

You have a lousy year and because the team wants you to move to another position to help them win, you balk and will only do it if they pay you more bucks. Wow. I still remember that "hustle" play he made into the left field corner. Great talent. A real jerk. As Grandsalami said earlier.....we need pitching not another head case. Lets not forget, pitching really wins ball games. Use the chips, if you are making a trade, for pitching....and totally forget Hanley.

Now that they aren't going to get Pujols and have Buerlue it seems more unlikely that he will be traded. Especially if they get Wilson. I'm not saying it can't happen. But I wouldn't say its diffinitly going to happen. I don't see Hanley going to us. I don't think we have the resources with our need for pitching and luxury tax issues.

And over here we have one Zack Grienke who is in the final year of his deal. Just sayin'.

I believe the AAV is only 11.667 because it's the last 3 years of a 6yr 70m deal he signed. I believe the Sox are more worried about AAV than actual dollars. I don't see a fit. But, just pointing that out because it could affect us if he wants to play 3b and we trade Youkilis.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox end up signing a solid FA late in the offseason due to a lack of bidders. Cordero and Madson are the only closers left on the FA market and the Sox and Reds are the only team with a need for a CL. However, the Angels might have the $ to pay Madson to pitch the 8th. I'm still thinking the #4 SP needs to be through trade with possibly Aceves/Doubront in the 5 spot til DiceK potentially returns. Get a closer, 4th SP, then evaluate if its easier to get a 5th SP or 7th inning guy.
