The only thing I really take away from it is that he's not going to be particularly intimidated by the outrage-based Boston sports media, given that he's been through that ringer pretty extensively and he still wants this job. The Red Sox need a manager for the 2012 season, not some hypothetical fake team a decade from now. You cannot make a reasonable projection of a manager that far out, and you wouldn't know how he would match with that roster or situation anyways. There is no reason to add a manager who is unprepared for the job just because you think he can become one down the road...this isn't like player development where you try add a Jurickson Profar in the hopes of what he one day can become. Managers are cheap and replaceable, they have no shelf life, and almost all the focus should be on the current fit with this team. Most of this team will be locked up for the next manager's entire contract.

Would like to see Alomar get another interview and I think they will interview Wallach, Martinez or Sandberg.. or at least they should

He may prefer Boston over the Cubs for whatever reason and be willing to wait until they make him an offer as well. Granted, the Cubs' offer may expire at some point if he doesn't accept it, but he's been the frontrunner in Boston. That said, the timing of Lucchino's comments today about expanding the search to new candidates may indicate that he knows the Cubs have made an offer to Sveum and that Sveum is likely to accept.

Lamont managed the White Sox from 92-95 and the Pirates from 97-2000 My gut says that the owners want a veteran presence in the clubhouse and they are pushing for Lamont. The criteria has changed in the last few hours, and it looks terrible that the Sox have spent time on all these guys who have no more experience than Sveum. The optics look like ownership pulling the rug out on Cherrington.
