Not as "sexy" as top 20 or top 10, but those are out of play anyway. Ridiculous to think that isn't valuable.

Ridiculous to think that isn't valuable.I did not say that the 31st pick wasn't valuable, only that it's as bad, or unsexy, of an unprotected 1st Round pick as you can get. Boston finds themselves in a position where they have to "trade down" in the draft to replace their closer (though they would net a sandwich pick), trust in Bard, or chance it on the reliever scrap-heap. And I'm not sure that I agree with the top 15 talent assessment. Last year's 1st Round showed a lot of teams willing and ready to throw money at high talent picks. Add to this one more organization that will concentrate on the draft (Cubs), as well as the specter of a hard-slot system, and I don't think those top talen guys are going to fall to Boston, like they may have in years past.

They are extremely valuable and to put that qualifier on it is just plain wrong. And even with teams willing to spend we still got a guy who was a top 15 talent with our pick......so okay? Until the hard-slot system is in place Boston will be able to get more talent that most teams in the draft. So overall, it may not be as sexy as it could by but the First Round pick we will get is very sexy.
