Also, I don't Hanley will be a shortstop beyond this year.

Also, I don't Hanley will be a shortstop beyond this year. There's $47M in savings and more years of control with Castro over Hanley, plus the headache is gone. The Cubs have decent enough pitching prospects and RP (Marmol, Samardzija, Mateo) that could get the deal done. Even if Hanley moves off of short, his value doesn't decrease. A new stadium, a new team name, and a fresh start free of baggage for Ozzie. Hand the team to Stanton, Anibal, Castro, and Morrison.

The only thing I am uncertain of is his arm strength in RF - not saying it isn't strong enough - just don't know. I think he would fit in well with Sox offensive approach, is a plus OF (if arm fits in Fenway RF), has played in NY so he knows the pressures of playing in big markets and he is simply a "dirtdog." The Royals do not plan to extend him long-term, and he will be eligible for FA after the 2012 season. I think he would be worth a conversation for Cherington.
