I love Youk and he's been one of my favorite players for a long time, but he is a DH now. Either sign Papi for 2 years at 10ish million and trade Youk for a SP, or offer Papi arbitration and he'll decline it and let him walk and put Youk at DH for the last year. That opens a hole at 3b, and I don't know how to fill it. Also, who knows how Kevin will respond to never playing the field. Lackey is gone. The way he stared down Francona, the way he erupted at the media, him sucking something fierce, he just isn't made for Boston and might not be made for major league baseball at this point in his career. Epic failure by Theo. Crawford sucked this year, but he will be better. He's not Coco Crisp, but he also isn't worth nearly as much as his contract. He needs to work on his swing (duh), and needs to work on his plate discipline (duh), but we knew he was a free swinger when we signed him. He is a good player and will rebound to his career norm. Pick up Marco's option and make him the starting SS. He had a very good offensive season, and was passable defensively. Jed is too injury prone and hasn't proven to be able to play consistently enough to give him a starting job, but he is the PERFECT super utility infielder, but will have more value to us if he's traded. Let JR have the RF job out of spring, but let Kalish and him split the starts during the season.Revamp our bench, keep Aviles, Salty/Lava, Kalish when he's ready, and ?? as our bench. If we get Clay healthy, we have him and Lester at the top, and Beckett probably regressing again. I think we need to get another SP, but just a solid 3/4 type. We don't need CJ.Hopefully Doubront helps the bullpen, Rich Hill comes back and helps in the 2nd half, Jenks is a useful piece, and Wheeler repeats his season (sans the injuries). Tazawa and Ace could be the long relievers. I would retain Paps for 2 years at $12 million per. Theo won't walk away and shouldn't fired because of this terrible ending. I agree with others here that we should hire some people away from TB's scouting department and that should help us loads.

"tek and Wake need to ride off"
Probably not too many heard the interview in the radio pre-game --with D.Arnold-- but Wake fired the first shot for '12 roster spot. He wants to give the fans a chance to see him get the club rec. for W's.

but Theo hit on every problem the FO has had, and Tito openly slammed the team as a whole without getting into specific names obviously. I wasn't in the fire Theo club, but this makes me even more confident he's the right man for the job.

We're on year 5 of Theo's grimly looking at the camera, announcement that he'll analyze everything wrong about the 2005- Renteria 2006- Lugo 2007- NA 2008- defense 2009- Lackey 2010 -Crawford And frankly, Tito wanting a more professional team doesn't matter to me. The answer is that it is his job to manage the jerks. The answer is not to get rid of the talented jerks. Manny and Pedro were monumental divas/constant issues that had to be managed. Yet, you put up with it.

The biggest mistake with Renteria was selling low on him after an injury plagued year. Lugo was a terrible signing but he didn't make enough for it to be a huge deal. Lackey and Crawford's problems were impossible to forecast even if I thought they were overpays...and it has nothing to do with an inability to work in Boston. That N/A problem year was pretty fun. I'm still confused as how Lugo sabotaged the 06 team when he was signed after that season, but he sucked so bad I wouldn't put it past him either.

My uneducated understanding of the situation says it was overblown though. I have no problem whatsoever with the Daisuke signing...I mean with hindsight you'd obviously like a do-over, but at the time I liked it as much as any move Theo's made post-Schilling trade.
