Yeah I don't fully understand the Rockies reasoning either. I don't think they will end up dealing Jimenez, but the point is that the Rockies are a team that are built to win late in the season and make September runs, so why trade your ace? Posts: 973 07/25/11 8:26 PM Forum Moderator	They could be selling high in a trade market without another clear #1/#2-type pitcher available. It happens every year and most of the time the guy doesn't get traded, but when he does, it's always a hell of a haul.

His fastball's been down ~3 MPH on average this year. He's always had command issues to go along with his filthy stuff (granted he has improved his walk rate the past couple seasons) but his margin for error dropped along with his velocity.

Drew on the 15-day disabled list as planned. According to a WEEI.com report, Drew will be placed on the disabled list on Tuesday and utilityman Drew Sutton will be called up from Pawtucket. The absence of Weiland -- who would have been an extra pitcher, anyway -- loomed large as the game on Monday stretched into Tuesday. But the decision to send Weiland back, Terry Francona said, had little to do with baseball strategy. "There's a lot of moving parts," Francona said. "Some of it is baseball, and some of it is personal. We got caught in some things that I'm probably not able to talk about. You're going to have to take my word for it that sometimes personal stuff gets in the way." Does the fact that you can't trade somebody on the DL count as 'personal stuff' ? He is a pretty laid back guy but if that is what was happening (and I think it is) I think most people would react badly.

That would leave us with McDonald as our right fielder, Reddick gone, and Drew on the DL. Maybe they are being cautious and trying to have some forward thinking.

Veteran Member Posts: 824 07/26/11 7:48 AM	Why would a competent team like the Red Sox trade Reddick when's he's playing better than any other right fielder in the game not named Bautista right now, and for longterm value in which he's getting paid major league minimum for 2 more years? Ride the Reddick train into the ground. And enjoy having at least an average mlb right fielder for the next couple of years on the cheap. The Red Sox need pitching. The only pitcher worth going after is Kuroda. So most likely Theo stands pat and hopes to make a Salty esque move again at this years deadline.

I don't know if Francona was referring to him, but I don't get why, if the change was because of Drew pitching a fit, that would mean they'd wait one day to disable him. I also don't get why waiting one day would gum up the works on a trade. That said, color me confused as hell about what went down. Maybe you guys are right, but I don't get how that would change things to the situation we now have.
