Unless I'm mistaken, this means Drew can't be involved in a pre-deadline deal, correct? He probably wasn't going anywhere anyways, but i know a few people suggested he could go to the Mets in a hypothetical trade for Beltran (to even out the salaries).

It says he's telling some of his friends that he doesn't want to. Anyway, I think that's geared more towards Texas, you gotta think Boston would be the exception with there being no chance he would be asked to play anywhere but right, and I mean he'd have to look at that lineup with himself in it and see a historically great 1-9. Still he's probably saying this because he doesn't see Boston as a strong possibility.

I can't wait for the first book from a well known reporter, late in his life that tells about all the shit he and other writers just make up around trade deadlines, winter meetings and anything else like these times of year. Beltran is on record himself as saying Boston would be a "no brainer", which makes this story all the more bogus...

I think he'll regress back to more realistic levels as the season progresses but I really think he has a bright future. With that said, if they could get a realistic package done for rumored players in this thread (Rasmus, Quentin, Beltran, Pence, or possibily Upton) I think they should do it. Unfortunately is there any kind of precedence for this happening before? I remember Wagner was going to veto the trade here unless we refused to offer him arb and he later changed his mind but I don't think we bought him out of it. The scenario above is probably my number one choice right now. Other than that I say stick with the semi-unproven (we don't know how long this is going to last) Reddick.

The guy I had a bet with had a clear error ruled a double in the last game of the season and it was the margin of victory. Even ignoring the package for a second, he has a career walk rate of ~4.52 BB/9 after 452 innings in the majors. No thank you. I don't particularly want that kind of head ache no matter the price. Pitchers with that kind of control are not fun to watch. edit: I'm not sure if I'm looking at the correct stat, but it looks like he's throwing fewer pitches than ever in the strike zone as well.
