If Erik Aybar was in the draft tomorrow, he'd certainly go in the first 10 picks. He's definitely worth more than Type A compensation, the Red Sox
would love to have had a solution like him the last 5 years. You're right that Halladay wouldn't get to choose between offers.
aminahyaquin: Alou is a 37 year old 7 time MVP with a .347 lifetime batting average and a world of hustle. he
can golden glove field in his sleep.
tGG: Alou is actually 42, has never won an MVP, has a .303 lifetime batting average, and is mediocre at best in the field. joshv02: But, other than that, you're wrong. |

Rosenthal Seems like the Philly package would be Taylor and not Brown. If Brown, this might be close to conclusion. Of course, this would probably help finalize it altogether: In addition, they have lefty J.A. Happ, who is coming off a standout rookie season, but according to one source: "Don't rule out them including Cole Hamels" in a potential deal.
I'd take Hamels off of Toronto's hands in a heartbeat as part of a secondary trade.

Anyone think the proposed acquisition of Max Ramirez in the Lowell deal is to spin Ramirez in a larger package to Toronto or FL for Halladay or Johnson?

Guidas wrote: Perhaps, but it's not like the Red Sox have a long-term answer at C, either. Max probably isn't the answer, but he's worth the risk. I think they're acquiring him on the chance that he provides value at C.

Would a proposal of Bowden, Lowrie, Reddick, and Max Ramirez be too much to give up for the right to negotiate with Halladay?

No, dominican, but I don't think it's in the ballpark of what other teams are [reported to be] offering at this point, so it won't get Halladay.

CSNPhilly.com with a rundown of
the Halladay acquisition from a Phillies perspective.....
Phils general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is obsessed with Halladay. People close to Amaro say he began plotting strategy to get Halladay as far back as the summer of 2008.

Halladay to the Phillies? Lee to ??? | #211 | ||
The Phillies' pursuit of Toronto ace Roy Halladay appears to be reaching a boil.link link It is unclear which players the Phillies would send to the Blue Jays if the deal happens, but there were indications Monday that pitcher Cliff Lee could be traded. Trading Lee would help the Phillies get the prospects needed to complete the deal with Toronto. It would also free up $9 million in salary that would help the Phillies take on Halladay's $15.75 million salary for 2010.link If Halladay is going to Philly, the next best thing would be to help facilitate the trade by dealing prospects to the Phillies for Lee.

I'm still confused about what type of marginal upgrade the Phillies think Halladay is from Lee.

Halladay to PHI.
Cliff Lee to SEA. King Felix to TO. It would be the most awesomely redundant trade of all time. |
