Even more of an opportunity to maximize the hype because now he can be sold as "committed to pitching." Don't get me wrong - he seems like a great prospect, but the #2 at best ceiling has me thinking if you can use him and a couple (for Halladay) or four to five (Johnson, Felix) other minor league chips to get a #1 leverage may never be higher.

"A no-brainer, really. Kelly's so advanced as a pitcher that a 2011 debut is quite possible. He's a very solid defensive shortstop but is still a good four years away with the bat. He needs to quit hitting to concentrate on pitching and build up a season's worth of stamina. Approve."

"I think it's very clear that he's a very, very talented pitcher. That's not to take away from his talent as a position player," said Sambito. "I think it was clear that his path to the big leagues was going to be somewhat shorter than as a position player. It really was Casey's decision - 100 percent. He had to search deep down inside and decide what he wanted to do. John Courtright and I were there for guidance, but it was really Casey's decision. That's what it was - Casey's decision."

Or maybe they are complicated, but the decisions they make are very rational and predictable. It is simply a numbers game. Yea, Kelly might be bored as a pitcher. But he's going to be bored all the way to the bank.

"I think he's going to gain another mile per hour or two on his fastball. It's got good sink. His curveball is a 12-to-6, and I think he can make that better. His changeup that he's got… And he's got command of all three. I told him, the stuff that I see from you gets big-league hitters out. You can be competitive with the stuff you have now, and it's only going to get better. It's exciting."
That's good advice to quote Jimmy Dugan.

I'd have assumed that the organization which has paid his bonuses and salary, would have had at least a percentage of that decision.
