My question is with the extra pick coming from Wagner, does this allow the Sox to feel better about signing a Type A FA (Holliday, Lackey, Scutaro, etc)

If they sign Holliday, I don't think the pick they would be giving up would be that much of a consideration in signing Scutaro. Of course it would be
considered on some level, but at that point you would have 4 picks ahead of that one (even if it was a team in the lower half of the league that signs Bay, you
would still get a higher second round then we currently hold I believe). So again, its not like you ever want to lose a pick, but all things considered it
wouldn't be that big of a factor if the FO deems Scutaro to be the best fit for the job, at the right price, etc.

Agreeing with those above, the factor wagner will net compensation has no factor on Holliday or any other Type A free agent. This is a very smart front office
(Lugo, Renteria, Smoltz aside) they value each player on their ability and future expectations. If Holliday is deemed to be worth the price to them, they will
sign him regardless of this transaction.

Yes, this front office values player development very heavily and will not give up picks for a player they do not see as making a huge impact here. I know we
gave up a pick for Lugo, but I really think they thought he would provide stability at short.

Historically though they have been fairly cautious in the 1st round because they've always been willing to let riskier signs slip to the later rounds.
