Just a few days before the Sox have to decide whether to protect him for the Rue 5 draft. Ouch.

BA's compendium of gun readings: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=7107
Lentz & Richardson: sat/avg ~93, each touched ~95. [edit: its not Badler afterall, but I saw on Badler's tweets. On the other hand, I am balder than I used to be.]

I'd just edit that post, but I'm not a mod anymore, so...
Here's a working link to that Badler piece Player, Max, average Richardson, 95.3, 92.97 Lentz, 94.8, 92.79 Bierd, 90.5, 87.52 Province, 90.3, 88.38

I've been wondering what impact Richardson's transition to the bullpen would have on his velocity, so it's great to see him touch the mid-90's.
I think he's someone to we might see sooner rather than later next season at the major league level.
Why would we ever PH for Varitek? I mean, what if we PH for him, and it goes to extras, and vic martinez gets eaten by
dinosaurs? We'd have to use the emergency catcher.

Project Prospect with home-to-first times from the AFL here. These times were taken from video they got, and thus are more accurate than they
probably would be live. I think they have some very interesting results on the Sox' contingent:
So Iglesias is apparently faster than we thought, whereas Kalish might be slower. I kept Kelly in there for shiggles, and apparently they don't have video of Exposito running, not like we really care. Of course, obviously take these with a grain of salt.

It's nice to see a confirmation of the 70 rating for Iglesias, on the other hand, Kalish is not as fast as I thought he would be (SSS notwithstanding).

It's not the league as a whole, it's 45 guys they happened to have video of. The scouting scale 45 takes into account the batters side and speaks for
itself. I would have thought 55 but an unofficial number as I've never seen anything published, just my perception. Please remember though, it's based
on 2 AB's. I would put more stock in high numbers than low because any number of factors can slow you down for a period but there's nothing legal that
is going to make you faster.

Project Prospect refusing to let the AFL die: Batted Ball data
Kalish among the league leaders in LD%, highest K%, and highest GB% Iglesias among the league leaders in lowest LD%, lowest K%, lowest BB%, and highest GB% EDIT: I had their K rates backwards. Kalish was high, Iglesias low. Nice catch Yirmi

Arquimedez Bozo wrote:Obviously sounds terrible. But I figured out his BABip was only .304, which is perfectly reasonable, especially for a guy with speed. Also, you made a mistake: he had one of the lowest K rates (15th out of at least 60 qualifiers)... The 12.1% LD rate still sounds bad, though. |

Yirmiyahu wrote:Kid just doesn't take many pitches. It's specifically that aspect of his game that he should work on, and I'm torn as to which level AA or A+, would allow him to do that. I suppose it was at Portland that Reddick finally learned to take a walk. Also, I wonder what the percentage of balls swung at was. Maybe pitchers were just feeding him strikes cause they thought he was an easy out (like me.) |
