However he is not tearing the cover off the ball, which is what one might think having read this thread. I'm not talking about his defense, just the fact that people are enamored with his bat which I don't think is fair.

Offensively, he does have some bat speed, and scouts see a good rhythm in his swing, and he's even surprised some with occasional power.

I'm inclined to agree with him, I don't think anyone in this thread is claiming that he's been tearing the cover off the ball, or is otherwise overly enamored with his bat. Perhaps you could provide actual examples from within the thread to support your claims.
Someone needs to sit down with Iglesias and have a serious talk with him. He needs to be reminded that he can't hit and that he's only 19 years old. It's that desert air again...
He's just come from Cuba, his first competitive baseball in the US and he's putting up 750 OPS while wowing many poeple with his glove at SS and you think this is poor? This is 6th best at SS in the AFL and 3 2B also have higher. He's holding his own offensively with AA+ players while playing SS as well as hoped. I'm delighted

No one other than members of the Kelly family thinks he'll hit enough to be a major league shortstop. He looks like he can field the position, but he's simply not going to hit enough.

If he truly believes he can be a major league SS, it will always be in the back of his mind, especially if he ever struggles. Just like any decision anyone makes, if something doesn't work perfectly, you wonder how things would have been different with a different choice. Now it may not effect him on the field, there is no way of every proving that.

From Jason Grey's Blog: Ryan Kalish, Boston Red Sox: Kalish does a little bit of everything on the field and understands the strike zone well. While some scouts view him as a bit of a tweener, he does have the potential to be a starting outfielder in the big leagues.
