I'd say that Lost in Translation falls into the same category. I'm with you.

If Dumb And Dumber, Happy Gilmore, and Wayne's World are getting mentioned, you gotta add Tommy Boy.

Catching up on the emails in the last week.
80s Two 80s movies were cited as belonging in the top 15 list - Blues Brothers 1980 and Back to School 1986. Both are definitely worthy movies but my question is where do they fit? Another reason that the 80s were definitely the zenith of comedy over the past 50 years. They could potentially slot into the back of the top 15 or they could miss the list - IMO neither are top 10 movies from the decade. 90s A bunch of suggestions were made - Wayne's World 1992, Dumb and Dumber 1994, Billy Madison 1995, Tommy Boy 1995, Happy Gilmore 1996, South Park 1999. I responded re: Dumb and Dumber previously. Honestly, I see all of these movies on the next tier after the top 10. 00s Again, a number of suggestions were made - the Royal Tanenbaums 2001, Kung Pow 2002, A Mighty Wind 2003, Lost in Translation 2003, Dodgeball 2004, Team America 2004, Talladega Nights 2006, Hot Fuzz 2007, Pineapple Express 2008 (Thumbtanic is not so much a movie than a series of half-hour vignettes, so I did not include it). In several cases, better films by the same actors and/or directors (Zoolander, Shaun of the Dead, Anchorman) populate the list. Royal Tanenbaums and a Mighty Wind were the 12th and 13th films on my list. Never saw Lost in Translation or Kung Pow. Not a fan of Team America. |

I honestly think The Hangover should be on the list. On my top 5 - I'm tempted to say it's the funniest movie I've ever seen but I want to see it a
couple more times & make sure it's not just a novelty type thing. Def better than Animal House and I loved that movie.
Another movie not getting enough love in this thread is Super Troopers. |

I don't understand why The Hangover was considered so funny. It was incredibly generic.
Super Troopers I like.

My fab comedic movie is Borat. Just because there is no acting other than Borat, The Fat guy and the whore.

MrNewEngland wrote:I had Super Troopers as #2 for the 00s. Can't say that I didn't give it love. As to The Hangover versus Animal House, I respectfully disagree. I liked The Hangover a lot, but it does not compare to Animal House. In fact, I dare say that no movie from the 00s could crack the top six from the 70s (Animal House being sixth on my list).
