The Red Sox also pounded teams like the Orioles which helped to pad their statistics. They need to sign Bay or Holliday and then go out and get another bat as I am not counting on guys like Ortiz who was quoted the other day that the only thing that he plans to change this offseason is picking up a bat earlier. Perhaps if he also agrees to drop his fork earlier each day he might have something. 481 runs scored at Fenway = 5.94 rpg at home. 4.83 rpg on the road.

Sure, we want him fit, but as long as he is limber and strong, the weight should be working in his favor, at least to a point. Certainly, asking him to lose 40 lbs is a bit much, as that would put him around 200 -- he's listed at 230 -- which for a 6'4" guy is pretty darn tiny.

The Sox could use another top-flight starter and if they got one why then would they give up one? Not much would have been accomplished. Sure, Beckett is only elite part of the time, but he still has one of the best records in baseball. There just are not very many truly elite players in baseball right now. So maybe the ones we rank as Very Good, like Beckett, are, when compared to their peers, better than we think. Furthermore, with Beckett in his walk year his value will be down. It is the worst time to be trading him. I would prefer than he perform for his next contract for the Sox.

Every team scores more at home than on the road, plus, Fenway is easily among the best hitters parks. Moreover, some of the home/away variance could be statistical aberration (luck).

Edgar Gonzalez Wednesday said he would opt for free agency after the Padres dropped him from their 40-man roster and outrighted him to Triple-A Portland. "I think this is the end of my run here," Gonzalez said. "I love San Diego. And the Padres gave me an opportunity that I'm thankful for. But my future is probably elsewhere." The older brother of Adrian Gonzalez, Edgar had spent nine years in the minor leagues when he made his major league debut with the Padres in May 2008.
