You have to give your team at least one chance to win there. Inexcusable.

So, Brad Lidge isn't very good.
Why would we ever PH for Varitek? I mean, what if we PH for him, and it goes to extras, and vic martinez gets eaten by
dinosaurs? We'd have to use the emergency catcher.

I know, by their very nature switch-hitters are cowards, but when is one going to show some guts and hit right-handed against Rivera.

They need an official "closer"

Well you can't spell closer without loser... so yeah... at least Philly got to have 4 days of Pearl Jam so not all is lost.
This series is lacking in sustained drama or intriguing play. Not to say its been bad, there's been some good quality ball, but anytime the games get really close and interesting it goes away in a flash or in a Brad Lidge pitch. |

I bet the Phillies would love to take Lowell off Theo's hands for Brad Lidge...

So, all these teams (Minny, LA, Philly) choke against the Yanks, with closers blowing leads, making errors, etc. etc.
Or maybe the Yanks are really good when they need to be. $210 million can't be wrong. |

Does Shane Victorino swing at more pitches than Vlad Guerrero or is it just the way it has appeared this series?

I don't really know how can the Phillies beat the Yankees 3 straight with Lee (likely), Pedro (which one he show up good/bad) & Hammels (poor) as their
next turns. Their chance was already thrown away with Utley error (from 2-2 to 2-4) and a poor closer performance. The Yankees must be lucky with all miscues
from Minny, LAA & Philly. I hate & cannot stand to watch them to claim 27th WS title soon, 5th ring for DJ, Rivera, AP & Posada and 1st ring for
ARod, Tex & CC. I blamed Bud Selig for allow luxury tax (didn't hurt NYY at all) for being over cap instead of under the cap like NFL, NHL, and NBA.

mredsox89 wrote: That may be true, but you could see the Phillies (read: Lidge) let down after that play. It was Lidge's responsibility to cover third base to prevent that from happening. I am no fan of the Hanks or Damon, but that was a brilliant heads-up play and, combined with the AB itself, was the play of the series. |

It deosnt bother me as much because I'm suspecting that they are not clean. Arod, Posada, Matsui and Damon had injuries and they didnt miss a bit. Posada
had a shoulder surgery and he is 38 and played like nothing happened to him. Matsui had knee problems and he is 35 and he was batting close to 300. Arod had
surgery on his hip and he played like he was healthy. Damon earlier in the year had a bum shoulder to the point where he was afraid to have an MRI and put up
great numbers at the age 35. I dont know about you but what do you make of Tex batting .071 in the WS?

"Gump" Manuel not gonne get too much love tomorrow. 115 pitches for Lee and he coughs up the momentum. Brutal.
Just wanted to say that Singer has disallowed me from posting new topics ever since my Freddy Guzman thread. He seemed very upset about my opinions and was
almost hostile in his responses. He must have been upset about something else, I don't know, it was strange. Anyway, apparently he has deemed me unworthy
of starting new discussions. Do I mind? I do mind, the Dude minds. This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.

I like the Phillies chances tonight with Pedro pitching. Plus Pettitte is pitching on only three days rest for the first time this year. The Yankees'
collars are likely to be a little more tighter tonight as all the pressure is on them. Tonight is the night that Ryan Howard finally breaks out of his World
Series slump.
PS-Why do some people refer to the Yankees as the "Hanks?" I have never heard them referred to that term until this post-season. Is this a reference to Steinbrenner's son?

Ryan Howard isn't going to break out tonight. Pettitte throws left handed and I hit lefties about as well as Ryan Howard does. The bottom line on Howard is
that he can be pitched to and the Yankees are doing it effectively.
aminahyaquin: Alou is a 37 year old 7 time MVP with a .347 lifetime batting average and a world of hustle. he
can golden glove field in his sleep.
tGG: Alou is actually 42, has never won an MVP, has a .303 lifetime batting average, and is mediocre at best in the field. joshv02: But, other than that, you're wrong. |

There is really no reason for Pettitte to throw Howard anything other than cutters down and in. He swings over the top of every pitch there and can't get
the head of the bat on the ball in that spot.
Pettitte's a pro. Sure, its the Yanks, Hanks, or whatever you want to call them, and it sucks when they win, but this is the guy you want pitching to close out the Series, 3 days rest or not. The storylines are on Pedro willing one against the Yanks, but Andy Pettitte is living this chance up right now. |
