Tough one between Nava and Hissey but went with Hissey. Could have picked either way.
Let me pull on your coat about something here tonight...

I love how Nava's a strong candidate for player of the week, yet his numbers this week are pulling down his OBP and SLG totals in Portland.
ADD: For the record, voted for Hissey.

I want to vote for Chiang, but I'm more impressed with how Hassan didn't look overmatched at Greenville.

At least now we're getting a full slate of offensive players with OPS well over 1.000 for the week. That is the way it should be when the system as a whole
is hitting at least adequately -- the hottest hitters should be at this level.

Tough to overlook Chiang's slugging this week.
I'll be there, watching the Sox representation of mid-rotation starters. -TheGoldenGreek33 on Casey Kelly

Anyone who voted for Nava or Exposito want to explain their reasoning? Again, I'm not calling you out - I'm curious because I can't think of how to
justify it.
And before anyone says "well Nava had 14 hits!", note that he had at least 9 more plate appearances than anyone else on the list.

Chiang.
AB: but almost went with Hissey b/c of greater PAs (with sustained success) and positional adjustment, and almost picked Nava because of level of competition. Greater PAs isn't a bad thing - it gives more opportunies for hits, but also more opportunities for outs. More hits with a high BA just means a greater sample size. Who could say that another player would have sustained the level of success over a greater sample size? Expo is a reasonable pick if you consider position and level of competition in your voting.

joshv02 wrote:I get the position thing with Expo, but at that point wouldn't you factor in the 2 errors and passed ball? As for Nava, I get it if he had sustained a certain level, but his rates are far below those of other guys on there. To each their own I guess. Not worried, just was curious.

Nava:
Yeah, but his sustained success created more runs. Looking at basic RCs: Nava: 9.5 Hissey: 8.7 Chiang: 7.6 Hassan: 6.9 Expo: 6.2 Expo: Well, yeah, but, well, yeah. |

Suprise to see Chiang leading this vote, I considered Nava and Hissey first. Especially considering the amount of AB's Nava got.

Chiang... but it was an interesting decision...
Hissy i didn't take because his legs are what are important to him and he was only 1 of 3 in SB attempts... basically he ran himself into outs twice on the base paths which negate his hits... Also, his slugging was good, but it was made up of basically all singles... he did have 3 2b's, but that's just not enough when getting caught twice... i do like the week just not over Chiangs.. Exposito had too many errors and passed balls for my liking. Offensively, he was right there, but in a tiebreaker he gets down graded for those things Nava was also a good choice, but I liked Chiang better... I particularly liked how Chiang had 4BB/2k's... I still believe Chiang is going to be heard from within the next couple years as a prospect for the Red Sox... I like his bat |

I went with Nava primarily because he had considerably more plate appearances and games than the other candidates and managed a .438BA. He is an interesting
study, a Johnny - come - lately. He's 26, so his ceiling is not as high as the younger prospects. But he sure can hit a baseball. I'll be following
him next year, hoping he doesn't have a "Bell" season.
