Wow, one bad performance. I'm sure he's had others. He was 3-2 with 2.76 ERA with his HS team this year and throws low 90's already. He had 32K's in 29 innings. I think his 6'5", 190lb frame has some room to fill out and he could add a few mph, too. I know nothing of his secondary stuff, though. It won't take huge money to get him. I think he's got decent potential - but I haven't seen him.
I wasn't suggesting I'd rather have him over anyone in particular. I think he's signable and projectable.

Boston Red Sox are last place in AL and both leagues for number of signing players out of 50 Round picks
I'm not surprise since most players might demand for higher bonuses/above the slot from both strongest & rich organizations: Boston & NYY. St Louis is the most successful by signing 43 out 50 picks before Aug 17 deadline. Last year division champs are helped themselves, too: LAA, CWS, TB, Phi, Mil, LAD and Chi Cubs. 19 is not many, I know I often feel like the Sox have a lot of good players AND bodies in the lower levels, and Paw in particular felt pretty thin all year
(Anderson and Duncan have really raised the talent I think position wise).
There will almost certianly be 5 or so signings but that would still put the Sox very low on the lists. Anyone snesible have any thoguhts that they might have a light class this year or could suddenly sign a lot more of these guys than expected. I think they drafted a lot more mid level signability guys than usual, but I may be wrong. I feel like in past years there were always a couple of guys we know but aren't offical and a few we're hoping on. but I don't remember there being 15 guys who are still could bes, with a number of high bonus guys. Especially with guys like Thompson coming out of nowhere. |

we most likely will sign 4-5 more guys than the 19 listed now, but you have to remember the Sox have one of the deepest farm systems so they don't need to
sign nearly as many as a STL or Chi who are pretty much barren

I'm not sure if the conversation above this post is sarcastic, but I'd be shocked if Renfroe ever threw a pitch in the Sox organization. And I think
they will definitely sign him.

OK. So not great numbers for HS. I can't find the report, but the brief report I saw had him with a decent scouting report. Am I misremembering that? I
have seen very little on him, I just seem to remember a blurb about him having decent velocity now with room to add more and slipping a bit because of his
commitment to PSU.
In any event, he seems signable, but maybe the Sox haven't been that impressed now that they've seen him over the summer. I remember the piece on Milroy that said he was looking for low to mid $100k to sign and was hoping to do that. He' got 18k's in 18.1 innings this summer - but with 25BB's.

That was my thought Amfox, the system has good talent in the lower levels, esp due to a lot of toolsy HS guys and international guys, hence the lower number of
signs, but a number of impact/ high talent names as a percentage of those 20 signs.
I note the majority of unsigned are high bonus or late round guys, which are hardly wasted picks if not signed. |

He's interested, if you get close to his number he's gonna bite.
Interesting strategy, nothing nothing nothing. Right 1 million on the table decide by tomorrow. Can you walk away from 1 million (or whatever). Risky strategy, but seemingly effective. If you know what your price is and you're happy to pay X, offer X last minute, no negotiations. |

Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere in the last few months, but I found this on a random site dated back in May when I googled info on Kline.
This guy claims to be Kline's best friend, so take it for what it's worth. I realize this is about as reliable a source as finding the same info in
the National Enquirer, but he does seem to know something about this kid.
My best friend and former teammate is a 6'4 rhp who throws up to 94 mph, has a wicked slider, and a big curve ball, he is a strike out pitcher. He's currently the #1 ranked high school player in the state of Maryland. His games have been flooded by scouts from every MLB team other than the Blue Jays and Athletics. He has committed to UVA and they have saved a spot for him in their rotation. BK has received a 90% scholarship from UVA. The Red Sox and Angels have stated if he will sign, he will be their first overall pick in the 2009 draft. The Brewers are also a top contendor.link If any of this is remotely true, then I look at it as... "If he will sign (for 1st round slot money), he will be their first overall pick in the 2009 draft." Kline's bonus demands were obviously much higher than this (> $1.13 million) and they took him in a later round hoping to negotiate something. He's a bright kid and I respect his decision to consider school. And I do not think he's a $2+ million dollar bonus talent.
