Just saw that WMB has a .9something OPS in July. That's not too shabby for a guy that some people might have written off early this year when he
underperformed. I'm going to assume that he's officially over the hamstring, but is this an instance of a raw toolsy guy getting hot or the
development really starting to take shape? Has anybody seem his firsthand lately? anything seem different with him at all? He's got my attention.

His last 10 games he's batting .459 with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs, 5 Doubles, and 9 Runs.

Be sure to count how many K's he has, too.
He's still got some potential, but he has to figure out how to cut down on the K's. I think we're all still paying attention.

His K:BB ratio for the year is 2.75 (88K:32BB), he's got that down to 2.0 (8K:4BB) in the last 10 games. So he's showing some improvement. He's not
close to Lavarnay's K:BB, but he's still doing bit better than Federowicz did in Greeneville (2.8)

So given the title of this thread, let's just call him Willie Mo Middlebrooks.

He showed improvement but it's still a long way from getting decent pitch selection.

Who the F is Willie Middlebrooks? Unless he himself has started going by Willie of his own free will, could we just
use his given, adult name?

I think that ASF meant Wily, not Willie, as in Wily Mo Pena. It was a joke ... they both have high K numbers in common.

Thanks to the Mods for changing the thread title......
Hitting .459 over his last 10 games, with an .880 post-ASG OPS. A lot of people are talking about Middlebrooks second half improvements the past 2 years; I'm thoroughly encouraged that he keeps progressing and showing 2nd half improvements as he climbs the ladder (2nd half improvements in Lowell last year, Greenville this year). Still struggling vs. LHP however (.228/.274/.695), and that's something I'm following in the second half as his (hopefully) torrid pace continues...... Keep it up Will, still hoping for big things out of you buddy. |

The strikeouts are a cause for concern, but it has been good to see the consistent hard contact and squaring up of the ball. When Middlebrooks squares a pitch
up, it tends to jump off of his bat to all fields with plenty of backspin and has a lot of carry to it. His swing is pretty compact and at least last season
wasn't on the long side at all. The strikeouts will hold him back, which is driven by his below average pitch recogntion, but that must be improving
because he is hitting a lot of balls hard frequently over the last 2 months. If he can get off-speed pitches down at the professional level, you should see
him be a lot more consistent at-bat to at-bat.

I think it has more to do with statistical sample size than experience.

Interestingly he has a very high career BABIP, which is 0.382 vs. RHP and 0.382 vs. LHP.
