Fernando Cabrera is on the TIA for the birth of his child. I'm guessing this is back in Puerto Rico given how long he has been inactive.
Congrats to Reddick for his first call-up, and congrats to McBeth on making it back.

Now that I think about it, Cabrera went on the TIA on the 24th. I seriously wonder what the heck is taking so long. I hope it's something more along the
lines of the Sox suggesting he take a week or so to help with roster flexibility than it is complications with the birth or something like that. You've got
to figure if the birth was imminent enough that he left, that they would have induced labor by now, right?

I would be loathe to even venture a guess about something like that. Just let it be.

I'm glad Reddick got his quick at-bat.
He did shave everything. As Dave noted, it was quite a combination.

As if on cue, Cabrera is on the mound for the PawSox, and not doing well.

Congrats to Josh! One of the most exciting players in the system in my opinion. This makes me wonder if it wont be long before he is promoted to Pawtucket?

Unless they're comfortable DH'ing Carter every day and having Reddick play RF every day, he might be better off in Portland. |

Pretty pumped I got to see Reddick MLB debut tonight. Got an AB in place of Rocco Baldelli in the 9th inning then played right field in the bottom of the 9th.
Just a ground out to short stop on the second pitch but I jumped out of my seat when I heard the announcer call his name. Pretty neat to see. The future of the
Red Sox outfield has arrived. Could Drew's "leg injury" be worse then originally thought:?

He should play center as much as possible because his ceiling is SO much higher at the big leagues if he can stick there, its even better to have a guy with a
cannon arm in center than in right.

This may ultimately end up being a bad move. Burning a Reddick option might be crucial down the line.

He might be ready, but you never know. Being ready to play OF for the Sox is a lot different being ready than being able to help out as a reliever.

Especially when Brian Anderson and Chris Duncan were already on the 40 man roster. I think one of the reasons Reddick was summoned was that Harrisburg is only
a short drive to Baltimore while the other two were in Buffalo.

templeUsox wrote: How does this automatically burns a Reddick option (genuine question)? I looked up the option rules in the Wiki and the following would seem to apply in this case (but maybe I'm missing something): "A player may not be optioned in more than three seasons. However, if a player is optioned for a total of less than 20 days in a given season, the
player shall not be charged with an option in connection with this limitation. A player is eligible for a fourth option season if he has been optioned in three
seasons but has not yet amassed five full seasons of professional baseball experience. For the purpose of this exception, a full season is one in which the
player is on any professional roster for at least 90 days."

WaterView, Reddick is only up until Martinez and Kotchman report. There's no way he's going to be up long enough that he won't be optioned for 20
days after this.
I guess it doesn't "automatically" burn an option, but it pretty much does. |
