If we got Kotchman then how does that make room for V-Mart? We'd still have way too many 1B/DH?

From Nightengale
Kotchman is staying put in Boston. They love him off the bench.http://twitter.com/BNightengale |

Masterson + Hagadone + Price > Buchholz
not by much though still like the trade as it gives us a legitamite catcher and can give Lowell a couple days off a week also i havent seen any site report Laroche for Kotchman. I think that was purely speculation by whoever suggested that |

Great move by the sox here. Although we gave up real quality in Hagadone, I feel that he was destined for the 'pen. Masterson was easy to give away but
I'll miss him and Price is a good prospect. Altogether, we didn't give up anyone we didn't want to along the lines of Bowden, Buc, Kelly,
Westmoreland, Tazawa, etc... Great trade. Kotch for Roche? Odd trade

Any sense of how V Mart is at handling a pitching staff. I know his defense isn't top-notch, but does he work well with pitchers?

Perhaps they will send Smoltz to the Pen when Dice K or Wake return and that will allow Buchholz to stay in the starting rotation.

I feel really bad for Masterson but this is a great trade for the sox. They were able to keep arguably their top three pitching prospects in Buchholz, Bard,
and Bowden. It sucks that Masterson was dealt, but hopefully he gets the chance to start in Cleveland. He'll be cheered for when he comes back to Boston.

On the other hand if your tools suck and your skills are excellent you're either not highly regarded or you're Pedroia.

Don't forget, that at least for Masterson, going to Cleveland is going home (at least until Kingston gets a franchise). So he can't be that
disappointed.

Masterson on NESN, he's quite a mature and genuine sounding guy. He talked about how good Martinez would be for the Sox.
