Four pithchers that were in Salem this year have interesting backgrounds, and I want to know people opinions of them. They have all had good performances,
though not against age appropriate talent, but are any of them prospects?

After last evening he's at .325/.371/.566 I imagine he'll be moving up fairly soon. Why is Tazawa still in Double A? Time to dust off my favorite thread again. As always, the below is my own speculation, submitted for your discussion, revision or dismissal.
Pawtucket Clay Buchholz Portland Dustin Richardson 64K w/1.29 WHIP, .186 Avg in 48.2 IP Josh Reddick - .276/.354/.552 in July after .288/.358/.644 April (injured in between) Junichi Tazawa - 60K w/1.05 WHIP in 65.2 IP since April Cases can also be made for Argenis Diaz, Lars Anderson, Jorge Jimenez, Ryan Khoury and Junichi Tazawa but more based on steady play and time spent than on the AA roster, than on excellent seasons. Salem Yamiaco Navarro Che-Hsuan Lin Luis Exposito Jose Capellan (more as a countermove, and to determine his worth in a AA bullpen before he becomes a free agent this fall.) Greenville Nick Hagadone Stolmy Pimentel Tejeda per AmFox' speculation although I think it really drops his prospect status, since he's clearly not ready Lowell None that jump out, possibly a couple of the pitchers. GCL Fuentes Kelly (I know, it's a given)

I think the players that clearly need promotions are Clay Buchholz, Reymond Fuentes, Yamaico Navarro and Stolmy Pimentel. Others like Tazawa and Anderson you
could make the case for but I think it is part of their process to develop more in AA. Also Kris Johnson badly needs a demotion from AAA to AA.

Kris Johnson will not get demoted. What may happen is that he gets sent to a fall league this offseason and start working on a possible transition to the
bullpen. As a 1st round draft pick, however, he will get every chance to succeed as a starter...and he certainly won't get a demotion to AA.
On the other hand if your tools suck and your skills are excellent you're either not highly regarded or you're Pedroia.

Here are my current thoughts on promotions and their consequences. Please note, as always, that these thoughts are in my individual capacity and not in my capacity as a moderator. Assumes that Dice-K joins the team on or about 9/1 (ie, no AAA effect). Assumes Buchholz stays in Boston for the remainder of the year. Pawtucket (1 over, Bierd, Maldonado and Danielson on "DL", assumes Daeges and Hansack do not return this year, effective 27 man roster) Proposed plan of action Add Diaz, Reddick, one of Tazawa or Plummer and Richardson from Portland Cut/DL/trade Guzman, Velazquez (2/29 in July) and two relievers (Cherry/Traber?) Portland (Lentz, Gabbard and Sheely on DL, Maxwell on paper move, assumes Beazley and Goodson do not return this year, effective 25 man roster) Proposed plan of action Promote Diaz, Reddick, one of Tazawa or Plummer and Richardson to Pawtucket Add Exposito, Lin, Navarro and Garrison from Salem Activate Lentz Send Apodaca and Sheely to Salem Salem (Portice on DL, Blackley rehabbing, assumes Reza does not return this year, effective 26 man roster) Proposed plan of action Promote Exposito, Lin, Navarro and Garrison to Portland Add Tejeda from Greenville Add Apodaca and Sheely from Portland Activate Blackey and Portice Greenville (Marks on DL, Williamson on paper move, effective 26 man roster) Proposed plan of action Promote Tejeda to Salem Add Kelly from GCL Red Sox |

I would think a Navarro promotion is now imminent.

I doubt they would cut Traber. He is one of the better pitcher on their pathetic PawSox team.

Not sure if it's posted anywhere else but from the look of it Yamaico Navarro has been promoted.

Yes, that is correct, and Jon Hee was promoted to Salem. No Tejeda and no Greenville countermove has been announced yet.

Welcome to the site, REDSOXFAN.
Also congrats to Navarro on his deserved promotion.

Congrats to Navarro... he definitely deserves it. I'm not quite sure I'm ready to throw him into the top 10 yet though... mostly because I don't
see anyone worthy of being knocked down a spot (crappy reason, I know).

Can we conclude that these guys are not in the picture for promotion this year, and that the organization likely has no plans for them for next year?
Enrique Gonzalez Randor Bierd, age 25 Rocky Cherry Javier Lopez McBeth going back to Pawsox makes 14 pitchers, is one of the above about to be sent packing? Bierd most likely to be brought back next year? Where has the "cut watch list" gone? |
